what isn't rigged these days? they shouldve had kanye west come out and say that Derozan deserved the award. good commercial though.
are you serious, McGee sucked balls! DeRozan was pretty good and Griffin had the chance to make it really good, but his over the car dunk was lame! All those stupid props ruined real athleticism and finesse that made the dunk contest so popular...
Of course it was rigged! Didn't you guys know they released a press release naming Blake Griffin the dunk champ an hour before the actual dunk contest? NBA is a rigged joke.
Pretty sure they did this for the Finals last year too. Joey Crawford, 20+ FTs in the 4th quarter... all the symptoms are there. Just sayin'
Are you guys, serious? I can't tell if some of you are joking or being serious. I hate NBA reffing as much as the rest, but you guys need to turn on your brains if you believe this. I f you are being serious than I would say I wouldn't read too much into this. This is kind of like saying most championship games are rigged because as soon as the team wins there is a newspaper headline about the team's win in the hands of courtside fans or players. We all knew Blake was going to win before the contest just like we all knew Justin Beiber was going to get celeb game hardware - they are the darlings of the voters(Blake with the judges and pretty much every NBA fan, Bieber with idiot teens). I don't think the NBA needed to set up a conspiracy for him to win...and if they really HAD to have Blake win - would they really be sharing that information with lowly copy editors? Wouldn't that be the WORST WAY to keep a conspiracy under wraps - by letting everyone in the organization know? ...and I don't think if he had NOT won the dunk contest it would have hurt any ad campaigns or marketing efforts around Blake. He was still featured in every night of the All Star weekend festivities. Blake was set up to be the big winner in the press that weekend regardless of what happened at the dunk contest. Come on guys - can't we just be reasonable here and take it for what it is - a jackass marketing copy editor getting ahead of themselves and accidentally forwarding something they had primed for what was a reasonable assumption that all of us had anyway?
David Stern doesn't need to hire Vince McMahon. He is the Vince McMahon of "professional sports". Look at WCF 2002. Rockets-Mavs in 2005. NBA is a hype engine used to lure in customers. It's ultimately just like any other product on the market. NBA where rigging happens.
This is exactly why they deceive everyone. By putting it directly in front of your face, you assume that they would never out themselves like that. So in turn you automatically rule it out without taking a look at the evidence, if there is any. Nobody thinks someone would intentionally out themselves, so you ultimately believe what they want you to.
I think during a game, Clyde Drexler said he wanted to give the car dunk a 7, but he gave it a 9 instead.
the kia was a huge oh thats interesting moment. also when the choir didn't sing gospel music but did that annoying R Kelly song... WHAT WERE THEY THINKING????
It really wasn't that impressive of a dunk. I'm sure at least a 100 guys (~20%) in the NBA could have done it. Derozan was robbed.
I'm pretty sure the dunk contest has been rigged from at least 2006 or earlier. If I remember correctly, Josh Smith basically put on a sorry performance so Nate Robinson could win. Don't get me wrong though, it's still fun to see what the players do in the dunk contest, but you had to have known Griffin was going to win this one with all the hype.
I have a feeling it was just someone in the PR department getting ahead of themselves. Everyone knew Griffin was the frontrunner to win. You can't start writing a PR release after the fact. You are usually required to write it ahead of time and amend it as needed. I agree the 2002 WC finals were probably interfered with by the refs to take it to 7 games, but comparing a press release to altering league history is dumb.
So OK, the fans voting can be rigged. But before it comes to that, he has to get past the judges. So the judges were be rigged. I haven't read anyone yet say anything on Dr. J and company. Can Dr. J and company be corrupted? I have to say I have respect in Dr. J he won't allow it. My 2 cents.
I wasn't comparing the two as alike or of the same significance. I was mainly pointing at one of the many situations the NBA has appointed their shill referees or marketers to extend series or rig athletic competitions all for the love of money.
If Julius Erving doesn't want to play by the NBA money making rules, even Dr. J can be released. The Doctor would care more about the growth of the game rather than the sanctity of an unimportant dunk contest. (in terms of impact on the season)
