All good points. I'm just so damn curious to know why the hell they're charging so much! Free Press doesnt strike me as one of these money-hungry outfits, unlike the ones that put on ACL and Lollapalooza. For example, 30 bucks for a two day pass is pure value! A steal really.
So they're going to add a big name electronic artist? or they're going to add someone to the main stage? or both?
Oh yeah. The price for a normal pass is probably the best value of any music festival I've seen, specially for the line-ups they produce. I just don't get the dance tent prices. I mean, is there even going to be anyone in it really? How many people are actually going to buy those passes? Theres a reason they make the normal passes so cheap.
I hear ya, it better be something super special. I know a guy who's good friends with the Gritsy folks (people curating the Dancey Pants tent). I asked him to press them for some information. Sounds like theyre planning something new/special from what I've been reading... and for 8 times the price of GA (granted this includes free drinks/food/massages/meet n greets), it better be.
Nothing really comes to mind when you say "new/special" thats actually possible (I'd like to think Daft Punk but yeah thats not happening). Really though, nothing short of...well, Daft Punk, would get me to spend that much. Even if the extras are real nice. Though it'd be cool if they did pull in someone really good. But I kinda just wish they'd open it to everyone, have it cheaper, or just let in fancy pants people
i went to an indie rock pool party at hipster ground zero (williamsburg, nyc) a few years ago. it was indie-riffic - i felt like i was right in the middle of an american apparel ad shoot.
Mccarren Pool? I went to a few of them in the early days of it, but stopped going b/c too many high school kids would show up and queue a line for about 2 hours before the show. The city shut that event down like at end of 2008.
Complementary drinks or not, they can't get enough big-name electronic artists to warrant a $240 pass. Even tickets to the UMF, which has an amazing lineup, weren't that crazy.
that was it - i was there in summer 08 - i think the hold steady was headlining when i went, but we didnt stick around. i hate the hold steady and the ironic mustache ratio was off the charts...couldnt...take...any...more.
I urge you all to see Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings. They, alone, make this a fantastic festival. One of the best live acts going.
Yeah I picked up a pass to UMF right before it sold out. It was actually like $250 with service charges, but that's a real 3 day festival. I've never seen a line up like that before. But that's also just a GA pass. By all accounts, the VIP passes to UMF are a complete waste of money. I'm just curious to know what Free Press has up its sleeves that's all.
McCarren pool is soon to be... a real pool again. It's been under construction for the last year and a half. They moved the shows to the waterfront during the summer. Not as cool as the pool party shows, but it's a great view.
They added Big Boi, Beirut, Girls, and Killing Joke. REALLY love the lineup now. edit: of course hipsterpantz beats me to the punch
