20 years from know nobody will remember the King's Speech, but Inception and Social Network will be iconic movies that will be talked about for years. Fincher not winning for Best Director was ridiculous. If you don't believe me watch the extras on the blu ray.

King's Speech is a good movie, an important part of British Monarchy history... It's a movie that students and teachers will watch in History Class.. Being in the same year as Inception, I don't think it's a better movie...

I actually think social network's shelf life will be much shorter than the other two you mentioned. Although a good movie, it's topic is a bit pop culturery.

People overrate the Social Network because it has direct ties to a huge phenomenon in today's society. It was a good movie (better than I anticipated), but it's hardly one of the greatest movies of all time. Similar to what DonkeyMagic said, this movie will not stand the test of time. At the end of the day, it's a movie about a website.

If you need extras on a DVD to reinforce your notion that said director should have won an award, could he have been that good to begin with?

If the Best Director award was given to the person who had the best-edited film, then Fincher certainly would have deserved it. But it's not just based on that, and in a race this close, to speak in platitudes about how those 2 films will be "remembered" in 20 years, well, that's just silly. The King's Speech is a very popular film that also happens to be based on history and won Best Picture - those 3 factors alone mean that it will be viewed year-over-year. However, The Social Network revealed...what? That Facebook was a really cool invention? That someone lived out the American Dream? Sort of like...Tucker, The Man and His Dream? or The Legend of Bagger Vance??

It's only considered groundbreaking because of its topic- certainly the film didn't break new ground like Pulp Fiction. I just can't wait to see The Twitter Phenomenon or Googled.

The actual web-site was so far down the list of what this movie was about I really think saying it was only about a website is over simplifying it. This movie was more about friendship, envy, and betrayal.

And, of course, this is exactly what makes it iconic, right??

way to describe 80% of movies. Don't get me wrong, I liked it but the Soundtrack and editing were the best thing to come out of it and the Academy agreed.

Sorry guys Justin Timberlake ruined TSn for me. No best picture winner should have that pu$$y in its movie.

The Kings Speech was fawking glorified Masterpiece Theater but it had no timberpuss.

True Grit was the overall best film.

No one will remember Social Network in 10 years when Facebook goes the way of the dodo bird like Myspace.

Facebook pretty much replaced MySpace. Do you think Facebook will be replaced by something else?
