i blame chrohn's disease and head automatica success for their drift into oblivion. I've seriously been waiting for the new album for a few years now since they started touring again. Best workout music ever.

Here's my facebook group that i'm the only member.

Animal Collective - Merriweather Post Pavillion, Strawberry Jam, and Feels.

3 albums of pure experimental, acid-flashback inducing freak folk goodness.

Dude, I never said your list was "incredibly uncool". I just mentioned that one of your groups really didn't belong with the others. I would say something else to the fact that you did not get that point but then that would make me sound like the Fat b*stard, so I'll just leave it at that.

Yup, 3 great albums to get started as well as Panda Bear's "Person Pitch". AnCo is one of those groups that you really have to start with their last effort and work your way backwards. If you try to start with their debut and go in progression, you'll get frustrated because their early stuff is so experimental and out there.

    Andrew Bird
    Cursive
    Bright Eyes
    Noah and the Whale
    Modest Mouse
    Death Cab

Though I admit I've been on a folk kick the past few years, mixing in some white boy indie rap like Astronautalis, Grieves, Felt, Eyedea & Abilities

OP if you like Cheap Trick and the Ramones, and power pop, you should like these guys. Only one album but it's a classic.

This one takes a few seconds to get going for some reason:

Yes, as Cheap Trick is my favorite American band of all time (OK, tied with REM) and The Ramones are close behind (like a 3-way tie with The Smithereens and CCR), I will definitely check this band out.

Wow, exposed to some very good music. Thanks, dudes (and dudettes)!!!!!!!

NOW THAT BAND THE YO-YOS- THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT!!! THAT'S SOME CLASSIC STUFF- I'M DOWNLOADING THAT ENTIRE CD.

Even though it didn't last long...I can't believe no one mentioned Audioslave. Arcade Fire blows. Kings of Leon is way better.

Say what you will about Blink 182 but Travis Barker is one HELL of a drummer.

trying to stick w/ bands that only came to prominence in the 2000's leaves out r. kelly, radiohead, spiritualized, wilco, flaming lips, opeth, beck, ect.

    dirty projectors
cafe tacuba - my favorite rock en espanol/alternativo groupo
    oneida
    tv on the radio
    nellie mckay
    sun kil moon
    dan deacon
vieux farka toure - son of ali farka toure and my favorite guitar player right now.
bobby conn - the jewish david bowie, if you will.
white denim - my favorite austin band of the last 10 years or so.

williamsburg, nyc was a real hotspot the last 10 years - animal collective, grizzly bear, dirty projectors, tv on the radio, oneida, liars

biggest disappointment of the last 10 years - N.E.R.D. - i loved their first album and found everything else they have done to be total garbage. id put 'in search of' in my top 15 or 20 of the decade though.

Green Day does not suck. American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown are excellent CDs. They rock just as hard as the earlier stuff, but they incorporate a wider range of styles. As far as the "concept" aspect of it, like The Who's Tommy and The Kinks' Arthur, the stories are not completely coherent, but they're reasonably well-told. And I applaud for at least attempting to create a "piece" of music, an artistic work if you will. Holiday, Boulevard of Broken Dreams, and 21 Guns will be remembered long after the songs from many of these bands.
