Current title: Destined to Witness by Hans J. Massaquoi Haven't finished this book yet, but it is an autobiography of an African man (his father was from Liberia) who grew up in Nazi Germany during WWII. It sheds light on another part of the holocaust caused by Hitler and Co. and it serves to dispel the notion that this holocaust was strictly a "Jewish Thing". Would I Suggest: Will update when finished but as of right now....Yes *************** I am a man of my word and here is my update: This is a GREAT book!!!! It is def. in my top 5 of all the books I have read previously. It is an incredible tale of one man's struggle to survive and shows both the best and the worst of human nature. Would suggest this book to everyone.
Currently reading: Persuasion: The Power of Influence - Robert Cialdani Good book for marketing professionals as well as most anyone who ever wanted to learn little tricks of human interaction and social conditioning and use them to their advantage.
Reading The Heroes now. So far, up to snuff with the rest of Abercrombie's stuff. Which means I'm losing sleep reading it. I'll probably be done tonight. I may re-read Best Served Cold. I think I would get more out of it now that I've read the rest of JA's stuff. Crippled God is up next for me.
lol haven't finished yet, but I can bet you that reading this is better then reading nothing. Just check it out from your library, it's free, you have nothing to lose and much knowledge that could be gained. Even if you already know what this book has to say, the mind is a muscle, and doing the same proverbial exercises can only help sharpen your reflexes when it comes to knowledge!
Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen. Awesome story. I will follow that with Unbroken, a World War II Story of Survival, Resilience and Redemption by Laura Hillebrand.
I finished up Book 5 of MBotF, Midnight Tides, the other day. I was a bit reluctant to follow a whole new group of characters, but I thoroughly enjoyed the book. Especially after the rough slog that was book 4. Maybe Erickson left things hanging a bit too much, but seeing how it's a 10 book series, I'm willing to give that a pass. For now. This whole series better come to a satisfactory conclusion. Spoiler The two sets of brothers were fascinating characters. Tehol and his servant Bugg were pure awesomeness. Can't wait to get back to them in Book 7. The Tiste Edur were also fascinating. The Rhulad development was unexpected, and I'm looking forward to seeing Rhulad completely melt down in the course of the series. I wonder how Erickson will resolve this. Book 6, The Bonehunters, is back to the characters from Memories of Ice. 200 pages in, and I like the pacing of this book so much better than Memories of Ice.
Spoiler Tehol is my favorite character of the series. He and Bugg are just great. I wasn't a big fan of MT in my first read, but in the second read it is great. I'm still reading The crippled god, just 200 more pages and i'm done. It started a bit slow for me (since the focus was on characters I didn't care for), but the second half has been amazing, and I expect to be blown away the last 100 pages.
I really enjoyed MT. Erikson is a master worldbuilder. I agree - book 4 was a serious slog (good way to put it). I had to take a break from my reread after finishing that up. I finished The Heroes by Abercrombie. I'm in love with this guy's writing. He needs to write more. And more. I decided to shift gears and I'm reading the first Garrett Files book, Sweet Silver Blues by Glen Cook. It's actually part of a collection of the first three books. It's a first-person detective story told from the POV of Garrett. He lives in a fantasy world and is involved in an inheritance case. Fairly light and entertaining so far.
Just got a Nook. First purchase on it was Assholes Finish First by Tucker Max. It's hilarious. So far it's even better than I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell, as it's more about his stupid party antics than his hook-ups. The clown bus story is golden.
I am currently reading The Paleo Solution as well. A very good and informative book. I have been on the diet 3 weeks now and can already tell a HUGE difference in my body and the way I feel.
I am reading The Paleo Solution as well. It is a very good and informative book. I have been unhealthy my whole life, but after being on the diet 3 weeks now I have lost 20lbs and I feel incredible.
I finally finished Halting State. That was a chore. I was thinking it'd be a thriller along the same lines of Daemon...not even close. Next up is "The Art of Racing in the Rain."
Looking forward to your feedback on The Art of Racing in the Rain. That's been intriguing me for a while, and I'm trying to decide if I should pick it up after I finally clear out this backlog of fantasy series I'm reading.
In his first book there is a story about how he wrote a bunch of A-hole notes to the blind piano player at the place where I work. The blind guy still works there but not full time, but he hears about the book all the time. The funny part is that Tucker Max came back to the bar about two weeks ago. I didn't see him and I would not have recognized him anyway, but I had hoped that he would have come up and done something douchey. Bartenders said that he was pretty cool about the whole thing.
I finished the book. The first half was a bit slow, but the second half picked it up. In general I liked it a lot. Still after this book there are enough questions unanswered. Ofcourse there are some emotional parts. I will not spoiler anything. It is the best Fantasy series I have ever read.
