We know you're not because while Obama's popularity was at it's peak you were ahead of the curve in your support of Michael Steele based on... merit?

The only race you cared about in 2006 was the one to get Michael Steele elected. I'm sure that was based on your clear understanding of Steele's abilities, positions, and character.

Everytime Michael Steele is referenced, the Montgomery Flea Market commercial comes to mind.

This is going to be a fun to watch --

"I think it's not a killer for him. But he has to say either 'I love it,' 'I hate it,' or, 'Hey I tried it, it didn't work and that's why I would say to you, let's not do it nationally,'"

"He's got to figure out how he wants to deal with it. It's the 800-pound elephant in the room for him,"

Yes, he's right to defend the first lady against the ridiculous charges, but he's wrong to want to clear all Arabs out of the West Bank.

Conservative commentator, George Will lays it down this morning.

Mike Huckabee, Newt Gingrich and the spotlight-chasing candidates of 2012

If pessimism is not creeping on little cat's feet into Republicans' thinking about their 2012 presidential prospects, that is another reason for pessimism. This is because it indicates they do not understand that sensible Americans, who pay scant attention to presidential politics at this point in the electoral cycle, must nevertheless be detecting vibrations of weirdness emanating from people associated with the party.

I want Mike to make it out of the primary, would be a victory for the future of the Republican party. He may have some wacky stances here and there, but the guy seems to genuinely care and is thoughtful and reasonable, which is increasingly rare.

Fox probably cut her a big check to not announce until after 2011 elections. She's going to raise more money than any other candidate and there are still no other notable GOP females announcing, even from a professional pundit standpoint it doesn't make sense for her not to run.

This really surprises me. As much as you hate religion, you want the candidate most loved by the religious right to win the primary?

My first choice would be Gingrich. I would NEVER vote for Romney in a primary.

I was with you on Huckabee until he suggested that Obama lived in Kenya and that it affected his worldview.

Any "sensible" Republican should never be throwing out that nonsense out like it is fact and then pontificating on the implications of living in Kenya as if it makes Obama less American than the rest of us.

I don't mind a candidate having a strong opinion about an issue as long as they do not force their ideologue on the masses. I am no Palin fan by any means, but I would support her as a senator, but never as a president.
I am mixed on Huckabee. A president catering to his personal beliefs is no different than one who caters to specific groups of people to favor their vote. I believe Huckabee will be more bipartisan on the important issues than many of the potential candidates out there, but he has said other things that lead me to believe he would put his religious beliefs first.
