Agreed. Lowry has improved his game this season and is starting to grow into his role. DD wants to call him a below avg PG......geesh.

If the Rox are winning there would not be the general malaise in Rockets nation.

I have nothing against Lowry, I just don't think he is all that good. He was hot for a while but has since crashed back down to his pre heat stroke levels.

Well he's the best PG we have until a better option comes along.

I think he is playing the best out of the 3 we have, but I don't consider his skillset the best, or with the highest ceiling.

So you're really going to try and say the rockets are winning with Lowry onthe floor? A team that, last I checked, is below .500. A team that has been led by Lowry, and is probably worse in every category compared to last years team that had less talent ( who was starting then? ). AB is the better player overall. Even with starting minutes, you were only getting 1 more assist and a couple more rebounds from Lowry compared to when ab started.

Obviously he's playing poorly right now, but he missed more than a quarter of the season, may not be 100%, and is clearly uncomfortable with his role.

Wrong, Lowry might not be playing his best Basketball right now but he sure isn't “hurting the team”, Brooks is and consistently has this year. I agree that Brooks should start but only (as you have acknowledged) when he earns it back by returning to his former self and if he can at least try try his best on defense, not because Lowry isn't up to the task, but This way Lowry can translate his impact to the second unit, which has been our major weakness when trying to maintain or form leads.

I see you're making progress with your bias but please realize you sometimes neglect plain reality.

Yes, I was trying to say Rocket's are winning with Lowry "on the floor". Check the other posts about +/-, that indeed is a fact.

As "good" as AB was last year, Rockets were losing when AB was "on the floor".

I'm not saying that is the only factor affects winning or losing, but accusing Lowry for losing just because somebody else lost the lead when he was sitting on the bench isn't fair to him.

On the other hand, gave all the credit to AB when the team had a "-" when he was on the floor last year isn't that fair either.

The plain reality is that right now they are both in the bottom 1/3rd of PGs in the league.

My point is, don't drag Lowry into the mud just because your boy is, Lowry is producing around what was expected of him, is Brooks producing what he expects to earn?

Lowry is fulfilling his role, Brooks isn't.

I expect more than 41% shooting and 6 assists a game from a starting PG getting 32mpg.....

    That is pedestrian at best....

That could be it though, I have higher expectations than some.

Nah, other people's "understanding of the game" just goes a little deeper than assists and FG%.

LOL. You have lower expectations than some whem it comes to your favorate player. AB was shooting the same with much fewer assists and much worse defense in 2008-2009, yet you though he's above average.

    Double standards at it's best.

No, they're actually a game or 2 over 500 with Lowry as a starter. Remember that we started 0-5 with AB as a starter.

Also, remember that we went through serious slumps last season when Lowry was injured. Imagine what Lowry's assist numbers would look like with a star. For example, I think he could have easily average 8-9 a game if we landed Amare. Just saying..

Wow, weren't you professing that assist averages was not a telling matter in Adelman's system? By the way, Lowry is averaging 6.5 and I'm willing to bet he would average a very serviceable 8 assists per game if he didn't have to share his minutes with another primary player in his position.

Your other boy Ridnour is shooting 47.4%. Is he a better player because of that? Does he impact the game as much as Lowry does?

    Again, neglecting reality.

To be fair, Lowry isn't going to have 8-9 assists with or without Amare in RA's system. RA runs a lot high post plays which gets the center a lot assists.

And to average 9 assists, you need to be a ball sominant PG. Lowry isn't one.

Lowry has been a middle-of-the-pack PG for our team. He isn't an all-star or anything, but he does a lot of things very well that of course doesn't show up in just FG% and APG. He's one of those players that are underrated by the boxscore.

I seem to remember Brooks getting a pass for a lot of his mistakes during his first season of adjusting to playing the starter role (when he also had Yao healthy for a good portion of it). Lowry doesn't seem to get the same pass even though he is younger than Brooks and doesn't have a healthy Yao drawing double teams or Mutumbo in the back up center role. The presumption by some fans seems to be that the younger Lowry is some how already capped out on his improvement, but the older Brooks is just showing the tip of his potential. I still haven't figured out exactly why that is.

We did start the year 0-5 with Brooks as the starter so let's not act like Lowry took over a championship contender like some fans wanted to argue before the season started. The Rockets had a losing record after the Kevin Martin trade last year going 14-15 to finish last season with Brooks at the helm. Our "improved talent" this year consists primarily of Paterick Patterson, Brad Miller and Courtney Lee, all of whom mostly play with the 2nd unit when they play at all. So if this talent is helping anyone, it should be the back up PG. In fact I remember some people argueing that the reason Lowry got more assists is because he was playing with the more uptempo 2nd team. Perhaps players like Buddinger haven't been as consistent because they don't have Lowry passing them the ball? I think both Brooks and Lowry can be capable PG's on contending teams as long as they aren't expected to be one of the best players on that team. If they are expected to fill that role then the season is probably going like this and last year have.

I was talking about 2008-2009 season.

No, I don't defend Lowry like you do to AB. I say what I see. I don't call Lowry an "all star" PG or "elite" PG like you do to AB, when people compare Lowry to Kidd and Nash, I said his ceiling won't be that high, he can only be a poor man's Kidd.

Lowy is a very good role player but if Brooks isn't going to be one of your main offensive go-getters then what is the point of having him? You wouldn't be playing him to his major strengths and thus, that would accentuate his weaknesses.
