Its been out of control since the first Bush election. The D&D has become a forum of bullies. Its less about D&D and more about insulting, putting people down and trying to convince everyone they are more intellectually superior.

As soon as I heard about this over the weekend, I knew both sides would try to use it to bolster their dumb arguments.

I'm glad the internet/talk radio/blogs/cable news networks/twitter weren't around when Kennedy was shot.

I agree. I read the first 10 pages or so of the thread before it really blew up into a giant finger pointing fest(by da_whopper's repeated use of massive text). Most posters did take note that Giffords was a specific target on the picture but delayed blame on palin/rush/beck until more was known about the shooter. I don't see anything wrong with a cooling of rhetoric and holding people in the public responsible for the language they use in any arena.

"holding people responsible" in this context is the same as assigning blame.

You said the wrong person was banned. I'm giving you an opportunity to state your case. Please... who slandered Sarah Palin prior to da_whopper going ultra-defensive quote-Obama mode in bolded size 99 font.

Should I meet any of you in real life, I promise not to sucker punch you.

In fact, I'll offer you an iced tea (I don't like beer except in chili) and we'll split some nachos.

"Scoring points" is one thing, but on the reals, I find nothing wrong with people pointing to this tragedy as a prime example of why people should chill the f*** out with the whole good vs. evil/violent undertones rhetoric. Mentally unstable people are capable of things like this, and there is no reason to put gasoline on, or even near the fire, even if it didn't technically burn down the house this time.

Maybe keeping a thread for discussion of the topic separate of a thread in remembrance of the tragedy would help out.

why are you blaming palin for this?

that's what upsets people (well, maybe just me). when posters, at the very best, completely add their own commentary to other's posts that did not match the intent of the poster. at the very worst, it's just blantant lying.

Even the ABC Nightly News has discussed whether the heated rhetoric from conservatives like Palin has led to this.

I hardly think that complaints to the moderator should override everything else.
Perhaps those who abuse the complaint process should be disciplined?
