Why post that in this thread? What's there to debate?

Not too familiar with Malay politics, but its a shame that a democratic country would infringe on someone's rights like that.

I don't know, but there seemed to be a rather intense debate between Sunnis and Shiites in this thread, and that seemed to be relevant to differences in interpretation of islam, that's why I posted it. I also posted it because I was hoping that a discussion would help me understand these news.

He also posted it because one of his many google groups with the theme "Hate+Islam+Mozlems" sent that to him...

Can it be remotely possible that some of us Muslims are too sensitive AND that ATW does have a fixation of anything negative related to Islam?

No side is right and I don't mean to preach, but sheesh some of you guys seem like you would want to kill each other if you ever saw each other at a Rockets game.

It's a lot easier to be confrontational on the internets.

I can understand how you would infer that. However, since you don't hold your religious values highly at all, and seem to be borderline atheist, I don't expect you to understand.

Its not just Muslims, If you had an annoying poster repeatedly bashing Hindus, their gods, their beliefs, their leaders, etc etc, over and over and over... Then surely the Hindu's would be sensitive to every asinine post by the culprit.

Something about this post seems slightly condescending.

I thought so too. But I'm trying not to be sensitive about it since I was preaching the same thing about five min ago.

All I'll say is I don't think I take my religious values lightly.

My values as a follower of Islam - to leave in peace and to let others leave in peace. Think I'm pretty good with it so far.

Now if you are going to say that Islam means not gambling, not drinking, praying five times a day in a language I don't even understand, not eating pork, etc. etc. etc. then yeah I guess I don't fit adeels definition of a muslim.

    ummm?

He plasters the fact that he could care less about religious obligations all over this board. So its easy to infer that he doesn't value the religion much. Be that Ismailism or Islam...

Did not mean to be condescending...

Right and if that is his belief, then so be it...

If someone said that their only values from Christianity are - to leave in peace and to let others leave in peace (I am assuming, to live and to let live)

Do you think that "Christian" would care or be as sensitive when someone slandered Jesus/Mary/the Bible???

No, but then that person shouldnt be shocked to see other Christians that actually do care that their religious values/beliefs being desecrated.

I understand where you're coming from, but there's still something I don't understand.

If non-believers have "slandered" one's beliefs, how does that in any way affect the believer and his or her beliefs? Does it diminish the believer's chances of going to heaven in any way whatsoever?

To live and let live doesn't mean you don't care about your religion. It just means that you focus more on making yourself better according to that religion.

Someone bashing it over and over only shows that person is obsessed. It doesn't truly reflect the real religion, and it doesn't hamper one's dedication to it. IT doesn't mean they don't care about the religion. Just that if someone is obsessed with any example of something bad connected to the religion, that is their bizarre fixation and something that person needs to fix within themselves.

adeelsiddiqui and his cousin are self-righteous zealots who have not understood what real core values are vs. blindly following some weird rules and then considering yourself a "better" religious person because of that.

Reminds me of the pharisees as they are described in the new testament.

    From Wikipedia:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pharisees

R0ckets03 and sLaNd B a L L a are not only way more intelligent (obviously) and successful in life (my guess) but also have much better understood what is at the core of the values the abrahamic religions try to teach.

Of-course not, thats as simple as asking if a curse word or a racial slur towards a family member make them any less hurtful?

For example, If someone called your wife a prostitute, it doesn't diminish her character, but at the same time you wouldn't want to repeatedly hear it.
