Greetings. [Sorry for the long post beforehand] A few weeks ago, my cousin complained of some discomfort in her eye, citing that the eyeglasses she was wearing might have been bothering her. After checking at the ophthalmologist, who said the glasses and her eyes were fine but wanted to study it more deeply, sent her and my uncle's family for further investigation in San Antonio (they are from another town in on the border of South Texas). After a couple days of diagnostics, it was determined that there was a lump which pushed on the side of her eye. She was diagnosed with brain cancer a couple days later. Today, she is having a surgery of which details I don't know. She is 19 years old and was attending college. A couple years ago, a friend's mom had breast cancer and I believe they had to remove one of them. She came out well. A few months ago, one of my wife's aunts was diagnosed with a strain whose name I don't remember. She has since survived it and is still taking some medication for it. Back in Mexico, my aunt lost her battle with cancer after a few years ago. I saw her in her last few days and got to say goodbye. A friend (whose best friend from high school is Mrs. SwoLy) lost her husband and also our friend to this disease last month. She was forced to quit her job as a teacher to cope with this. Even though I realize this sounds negative, I know that at one point or another someone we know might get this. In this situation, though, I didn't think it would be someone so young and so close to me. I don't understand how these things happen, but I guess they happen for a reason. It hits home extremely hard and it turns us into compassionate people. Last weekend, we held a BBQ, Garage Sale, and Silent Auction for my cousin's family, so that we could all help with payment for treatments, medicines, bills, etc. The turnout was great; there were lots of volunteers and people donating for this, and people gave much more than the cost of a BBQ plate. For this, brothers and sisters in Rockets' ClutchFans arms, I would like to ask that you please send a good thought, a prayer, or a good vibe over to MD Anderson Cancer Center or my cousin's way, so that the doctors conduct a good procedure, and that my cousin comes out victorious against this dreadful disease we all hate. Thank you, CF. You can share my cousin's story if you'd like. If you would like to contribute, please PM me, or you can send a good thought. @($^$(*%&^#($_%&@(# Cancer... makes me so mad.
Stay strong, man. I'm sure your cousin has supportive family around. F%ck cancer! Cure some sh** already, scientists!
I lost my mother to cancer just a couple of months ago, so I know how nerve-wracking it can be to see someone you love fight for their life. Best wishes for you and you're family.
That's tough. Sounds like your family has seen more than it's share of fighting with it. Sending positive thoughts and prayers your way, amigo.
This thread shows that there are still plenty of generous and loving people in the world. I know how it feels man, maybe not as much as you, but cancer is tough. I lost a best friend and great grandma to it. Its really tough. But anyway prayers are with your cousin and your family.
