Wha kind of behavior could a Muslim do to improve their "average perception"? Perhaps build "a platform for multi-faith dialogue" that "will strive to promote inter-community peace, tolerance and understanding locally in New York City, nationally in America, and globally"?

The individual muslim? Just be a good person overall, which includes not forcing your women into mobile jails. Muslim organizations? Denounce islamic extremists, promote tolerance, fight the influence of wahabism and extremism on your religion, cooperate with the authorities when needed, etc.

By the way, Mexico is a good example for a country that is pretty messed up and it has nothing at all to do with Islam, which would be a good argument for those saying greed and the environment are more important factors.

More like New York City is opposed to the thing, only the liberals in Manhattan are barely in support of it. I'm going to have to start fact checking some of you.

    http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.co...community-center-recognize-constitutionality/

Poll: New Yorkers oppose mosque, recognize constitutionality

New York voters oppose by a nearly 2-to-1 margin plans to build an Islamic community center and mosque near Ground Zero in Manhattan, according to a new Siena Research Institute poll released Wednesday.

The same voters, however, overwhelmingly say the center's developers have a constitutional right to build it.

When asked if they "support or oppose the proposal to build the Cordoba House," New Yorkers said they oppose the facility, which is expected to cost $100 million, by a 63-27 percent margin. At the same time, by a 64-to-28 percent margin, New Yorkers say Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf has the constitutional right to build it.

Dude, quit your damn crying. If people are killing in the name of your religion don't ask me what you should do about it and don't blame me for holding those people and their supporters accountable for killing in the name of your religion and don't be surprised when I don't want houses of worship for that religion built in a place where thousands of people were murdered in the name of that religion. Changing the perception of your religion in the world starts with you, not me. What are you going to do about it because if all Muslims or Christians or Jews think they're simply responsible to themselves and not their families and their neighbors and their communities and their societies and their nations then the world is in deep trouble.

As an aside, as an American I'm extremely embarrassed by our association with Israel. I frequently speak out about Israel's actions on this board, including the latest attack of the aid flotilla. I have chronicled the Zionists plans to take land in the Palestinian territories and I consider the occupation to be completely illegal. So I do recognize my responsibility as an American to the foreign policy that we have and I do what I can financially and politically to support what I believe is the right thing. I feel the same way about those scumbags running Saudi Arabia.

Yes, we have evolved into the society where race and gender have rights, oh wait, that's the U.S.A. You equate anti-immigration with anti mexican? So you believe that the folks in Arizona are sick of only the mexicans (some which may be cousins of mine), but not the Hondurans and Salvadorians? And you know what, I'm tired of playing this game of dance around the sensitive muslim. When a group of individuals commit an atrocity in the name of Allah, then it is proposed to build a mosque or should I say a "cultural learning center with a swimming pool " feet away from where my American folks were killed by these spineless sacks of s**t, you expect me to be understanding of the muslim people. Do these "muslim-americans" have any tact or class to pull some s**t like this? If they had any respect for this country which has afforded them rights the couldn't possibly conceive in their stuck in 7th century countries, they would have some damn respect and put that sham crap building away from Ground Zero. Hell no, they have a duty to build a mosque to signify victory over the infidel, that's all this is, and if Imam Rauf and all his bs doesn't convince you these aholes care crap about america, you are a blithering idiot.

Again, some of the Americans who were killed in the 9/11 attacks were Muslim. Being Muslim doesn't make someone less American.

What might make someone less American is not being tolerant of religious buildings belonging to Muslims.

It's clear that you don't know what a mosque signifies, what the terrorists wanted, or what Muslims believe about the 9/11 terrorists.

Your rants based on wrong information is humorous to read.

In fact your rage is so misplaced and nonsensical that it's like a child being mad at God on a rainy day because he can't go swimming.

Someone's whipping himself into a frenzy in preparation for the Glen Beck rally.

That's the spirit we're looking for today!

He's quite the moderate Imam, its funny that he's being portrayed as a terrorist supporter. What does that mean for every other Imam in America.....

I think since people here say Islam is responsible for violence and all...it's fair to say all Tea Partiers are uneducated bigots who haven't traveled 50 miles from home unless it was to a Tea Party rally.

Since a white conservative bombed an abortion client....and another dragged a black man to his death, we can judge all white conservatives this way.

    One good stereotype deserves another.

I came to an even better decision yesterday actually.

I am not Muslim anymore. I don't believe in Islam. I've renounced both of these titles.

Now, as a non-Muslim, I am completely against Al Qaeda and will do what's within my power to speak out against them.

What have you done to oppose American affiliation with the Israel and Saudi Arabia your'e talking about?
