I gave him credit for his ability to get to the line. If you bother to actually read what I said instead of knee-jerking, you'd see that I said he is exceptional at drawing fouls. All of the other stuff you mentioned falls under "hustling". It's not skill so much as just playing hard. We've all seen the guy get gassed and slow down when Adelman leaves him in too long. He could keep playing like he does and continue putting up the same assist/rebound numbers with starter's minutes. That's obvious if you actually watch him play.
With respect, why do so many posters include Lowry or Scola (or both) in a trade for Bosh? Either one of those guys would have to want to oblige the Rockets and go to Toronto (or to a third team) to get that done. Now, if that's the only way they can get the $$ they want, fine. But Lowry would get no playing time in Toronto anyway.
Brooks is reminding me more and more of Francis. When his shot is on, we watch in amazement. The bbs calls him a superstar and everything is great. When it is off and his turnovers exceed or match the number of field goals made especially down the stretch of games, it's usually not a good night for the Rockets. With teams figuring him out more and more and trapping him, his ball handling skills almost get "exposed". It started with the Lakers trapping him with Gasol in the playoffs. I like Aaron, he could be great, but I think this team needs a more stable pg that distributes first. Lowry might be that guy. But I think they are going to look around to see if they can find another pg and if they do, Aaron will be moved. Just like the PF position this summer, they are content with what they have but I think they wouldn't mind finding something better.
One thing I loved about Lowry's game was his ability to push the ball. It really made our second unit one of the toughest in the game. Tho I wonder how much of a threat that would be w/o Carl.
His skill is he's a much better PG than Brooks. "Just an impossible dream?" I pray for that after each game.
Me too, though that does not translate well in the playoffs. Kyle is a huge part of this team, and his restricted status and the unknowns around the CBA are going to make this a long drawn out affair. I don't blame Kyle for wanting what is best for his career, nor Morey low balling him for what is best for the Rockets. I think both he and Scola, but moreso Lowry will make this a long and possibly heated offseason. DD
Don't you love it when people pull stats out of their ass? FG% at the rim (2009-2010 Season) Brooks: 50% Lowry: 53.8% source: http://www.hoopdata.com/shotstats.aspx?team=%&type=pg&posi=PG&yr=2010&gp=30&mins=20
Bzzzt. Incorrect! Kyle Lowry (.496) Aaron Brooks (.498) I'll take my NBA.com HotSpots over your HoopData.
Well, there is a discrepancy in the stats. I'm sorry for calling you out, but I don't see any reason to prefer your source.
It's clear Lowry is the type of Guard Morey prizes and wants to pair up with Yao next season. His tenacity to attack the basket is very important and his ability to finish around the rim is great.
Slightly off topic but if Lowry is truly Morey's guy and wants to give him a shot at starting and the Bosh/Amar'e/Jefferson derby in the offseason doesn't pan out, I'd call Utah and ask them what it would take to get their Knicks lotto pick. Not sure what all goes in trading picks on draft night with players, money and the cap but i'd entertain offering... Brooks for Utah's #1+fillers That could potentially give us 2 lottery picks to use or deal(if possible) and Utah needs a backup PG/SG to go with Deron or a possible replacement if he goes AWAL. Just a thought if Morey truly believes Lowry is that special...
I really like Lowry as a backup PG. I feel like that's the best role for him, where he can be most effective. I don't care for him as a starter so much, although it's less about how he'd perform in the starting lineup then it is about how Brooks would perform in the 2nd lineup. I just don't think that combination is as effective. Now, if Brooks gets moved, I have a hard time seeing a Lowry + PG worse then Lowry being effective. Kinda related, It seems like we are slowly moving towards the day when we know longer see the role of 'starter' meaning you're a better player, but just how you fit with other players to make the most effective lineups throughout the game. Rockets have shown that you can be relatively successful by having a 2nd lineup that's more effective then the oppossition, as long as the 1st lineup can hold there on. Spurs have done that for years.
If I had one question to ask Daryl Morey and he had to answer in a not-so-diplomatic fashion, I would ask: who do you value more, Aaron Brooks or Kyle Lowry? I have a feeling he might just say Lowry.
Have you seen him play as a starter? Don't pass judgement if you have yet to see him play as a starter and brooks with the 2nd unit. Brooks could end up being as productive as Manu is for SA. In that role Manu saves SA in a lot of games. Maybe Brooks could do the same for us. He is obviously not a pass first/set up type PG. He is a scorer. So why not put him with the 2nd unit and let him just focus on scoring the ball? He would still get 30 mins a game. Lowry attacks the paint better than brooks and would put more pressure on the defense to collapse into the paint and that would open up shooters more (and dishes to Yao for easy dunks and layups in the paint). Dont forget, this was a season for Brooks to develop his passing and using his speed to set up other players. What grade would you give him on that? I would say a C+ on that development. I like his shooting and scoring, but you have to be honest that he is not a good assist guy for this team. That's ok, we are just learning who he is as a player. Landry and Budinger thrived playing with Lowry. He set them up for good looks. That is just the type of player he is.
