I've talked quite a bit about how my wife is a cook on this board. Let me say once again that it does not suck being married to a cook, especially one who loves to practice her craft at home. Well, my wife is no longer a cook. She just got bumped up to Sous Chef at Chef Juanita and after a few months of that title, she's been marked to be Chef de Cuisine. This is a huge development for her. Cafe Juanita won a James Beard award in 2008 and is one of the top restaurants in the Northwest. The owner, Holly Smith, has been on Iron Chef America, and the restaurant itself is considered a top restaurant on the national level as well. Opportunities at top restaurants like this don't pop up often. They had easily over 150 reservations from really good cooks and chefs, but Holly picked my wife over all other candidates. It's a radical change for my wife, who hadn't worked the line in 2.5 years while she bore and delivered two children. She's busting her ass to get her sea legs and cooking chops back to par on top of learning all of the ins and outs of running a kitchen. It's not a surprise to me, but she's completely owning it so far. I'm incredibly lucky to have married such a wonderful woman, and I am immensely proud of her.

Good luck to your wife at her new job. I worked foodservice for years in high school and college all the way up from dishwasher to cook. I know how tough it is and it wasn't the career I wanted to pursue so I know it takes a bad ass to be stick with it and be successful.
I live up in Lynnwood - maybe my wife and I will head down 405 and stop by for a date night. Never been there. Have to wait for a special occasion, though...poor college student and all. Tell the wife congrats!
yeah i havn't worked since the end of July. being selective on where i want to work next. plus MW2 came out so iv'e been busy.
It's a bit pricey, definitely an anniversary or birthday kind of place if you're on a budget. As long as you don't crazy with wine, you can get out without dropping too much. The service is top notch, and it's got great ambiance. Let me know if you head out that way, and I'll tell my wife. Maybe she can send something extra out your way.
