Choke is terrible. Don't waste your time or rental money. Good book, awful movie...and I am a huge Rockwell fan.

    Quality sci-fi. Definitely recommended.

I think old Sam & new Sam were vacillating on killing a version of themselves and/or the "rescue team." I think their plan was to put the unused clone into the Rover after waking him up, then bash his head in (as to why not just leave him asleep: maybe the rescuers can tell that he hasn't "lived" yet, or maybe it's a plot hole). Either they were planning to kill the rescue team and both escape, or, more likely as they recognized their strength/morality, as the scene developed, they were planning for old Sam to go back in the cargo bay, and new Sam to sacrifice/continue the charade on the moon. Least, that's my take on it.

Also, Rockwell was great in The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford. Stole many a scene.

Enjoyed it more than I thought it would

Maybe it has to do with the predictability of most movies, but I was expecting GERTY to screw over Sam(s) any minute but it just never happened. That suspense alone was killing me.

Great movie overall, I really enjoyed it.

    Yeah...

I imagine they made him sound much like HAL from 2001 so that you would expect him to have a nasty side. Instead, he seems to have developed a rather human connection with (and affection for) the Sams. It was an interesting element.

I think healthy Sam was sacrificing himself for sick Sam. He told him that he had served his three years, so he deserved to go home. I think healthy Sam was planning on continuing the charade, at least until the rescue team had cleaned up and moved on. It was pretty much all in the moment.

As for the awakening of new Sam, well, I guess that's just protocol when Gerty retrieves a new clone. It also gave healthy Sam a chance to run everything by sick Sam, and this gave them an opportunity to deliberate.

Yes, they were planning on killing new Sam. I don't think killing the rescue team was ever part of the plan.

    This part I don't get.

How does awakening a new clone give them a chance to deliberate? They couldn't have done that otherwise? Maybe you mean that it kept Gerty busy and out of earshot, but that wasn't much of an obstacle as far as I could tell. Gerty seemed to be on their side, if anything.

Also, if it was Gerty's protocol to retrieve a new clone every time one was lost, then wouldn't healthy Sam spend all his time killing new Sams? Doesn't sound like much fun...or maybe it does :p

Sorry for resurrecting a sleeping thread. Saw this last night on one of the movies channels on DN. Had no clue what I was getting myself into...and was very pleasantly surprised. I recommend this to anyone who likes sci-fi and/or Kevin Spacey's trippy robot voice.

At the very least, worth a netflix rental. It seemed short to me and was definitely not complicated, at least on the surface.

    This spoiler.

I just watched this movie. It was really good. Apparently, the director has a sequel in mind.

Great movie, it stars one person for the majority of the film (2 if you count the machine) but I never got bored of it.

It had a mysterious vibe about it that kept you on the edge of your seat.
