You either haven't listened, can't understand, or are just lying for politics sake. Neither of those options paints you in a positive light.
Actually this regime and coup is very definitely the fruit of the "Axis of Evil" strategy - meanwhile North Korea's nuclear program is going strong. Thanks neocons!
Probably as perfect a description of McCain as possible. And basso. http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com/the_daily_dish/2009/06/pwn-of-the-day.html "To put it as simply as possible, McCain--and his cohorts--are trying to score political points against the President in the midst of an international crisis. It is the sort of behavior that Republicans routinely call "unpatriotic" when Democrats are doing it. I would never question John McCain's patriotism, no matter how misguided his sense of the country's best interests sometimes seems. His behavior has nothing to do with love of country; it has everything to do with love of self," - Joe Klein.
that you, 'Drew boy, and Joe Klein can write such tripe after 8 years battling Bush just shows that there's a new axis in town, the axis of idiocy.
Awww poor basso running away from the last 8 years of fail.....what's needed is some TOUGH TALK to cheer his faily butt up.... I SAY BRING 'EM ON!
As Obama pointed out, the Ahmadinejad regime, and that of the head Cleric are trying to misinterpret Obama's statements to make them look like he's encouraging the demonstrators to riot, and make it look like the U.S. is intervening. Why does basso want to play into Ahmadinejad's hand? Why is basso advocating the policy that Ahmadinejad wishes Obama would use?
what he said: [rquoter]This is Russia invades Georgia redux. Obama flails for a few days and finally gets the rhetoric where it should have been from day one. If speaking forthrightly is right today, why was it not right four days ago? If speaking forthrightly would endanger allegedly greater interests, why speak today? If speaking forthrightly would enable the mullahs to make the United States the issue, why speak today? The intellectual and moral incoherence of Obama's pronouncements is staggering. Today he decides to join Merkel, Sarko, et al in expressing concern for the brave Iranians fighting for their freedom with his customary swagger. We should not just sit back and say better late than never. We should see the dangers of a soulless president whose limited foreign policy instincts are all wrong, who refuses to discuss the consequences of murder with a Bush-like swagger and who's so stubborn and rigid he won't even rescind an invitation to a barbecue. It's a shame he didn't stick to reading the great Urdu poets.[/rquoter]
Poor basso. Although maybe I should say lucky basso, since the only reason you could possibly keep pulling crap like this is that you like being shown to be wrong. Because Obama has been consistent from the very beginning. Just like Obama schooled the reporter who bought into the same crap as basso, it will serve to school basso as well. Just listen to the first question and Obama's answer. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/LAnPYtEtstk&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/LAnPYtEtstk&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
^^^ it doesn't matter. whatever obama had done after the election, people like basso would've criticized it. they don't care what he does, they just find a way to cultivate an anti-obama message out of it. the hilarity is how bad it's constantly failing, but you have to admire their tenacity i guess, no matter how much it shows they care more about scoring political points than actually hoping this country succeeds.
i have seen many democrats/libs on this board post their distate regarding various obama policies. basso, are you planning on running for office or just pretending you work for fox? fair and balanced? i think not.
unlike fox, i never said i was fair and balanced. "as i've consistently said," i'm on the side of liberty, and against tyranny, wherever it exists. for perhaps the first time in my lifetime (Ike was president when i was born), and american president does not share the same sentiment. that saddens me, as it should all who grew up loving, or grew to love, this country.
basso, i'll give you that obama is a bit autocratic. but i'm okay so far because i trust him. as i stated in the burka thread: justice>freedom.
If you cannot acknowledge the wrongness of thinking everyone must agree with you, you will continue a stellar career of BBS fail (if not other fail; I can only imagine your "conversations" in real life, if your posting is any indication.) Let me demonstrate: basso loves his country. I love my country. we disagree to a striking extent on most policy questions. we disagree strikingly about the worth and character of a man like Dick Cheney. However, I will never claim that basso does not love his country or that he should think just like me. plurality of opinion and viewpoint is critical, even when some viewpoints put dogma and party ahead of data.
One thing I learned when I was NewYorker - no matter what, I could get under people's skin even when they knew that is all I was trying to do. Why do you guys continue to let TJ, Basso, and a few others do that? It's almost as if some guys enjoy it as much as they do. Masochists!
this is less a policy question that it it a question of values. do you value freedom and liberty? are willing to fight for it? or just pay lip service to it? when W stood up for freedom, i stood up with him. when he failed to stand against oppresion, as in darfur, i criticized him for it. on present evidence, obama stands for greater government control at home, and "stability" above all else abroad. both stances are at odds with my concept of liberty and justice.
