I agree DD, that's why I said it goes back to the contract situation. Some guys play better when they have peace and stability kin their life. Ron will never be a guy a team would have to worry about "caring" after being giving a contract. That's why I said they shouldve given him a 10m per for 4yrs extension and make him feel needed. I think if that was done, I think he would play more in tune with the offense. In his mind, the better then numbers, the more he will get paid. Having seen a guy like maggette get 50m for 5 is probably something he looks at a lot.. Regarding von, I think someone is going to offer him close to the mle. They'll look at his age and upside and do it.Especially one of tbose uptempo teams will see him in a different light.A team like toronto might be very appealing.

Ron is bound to re-sign with the rockets at a prize that both the team and himself can accept. Now the big question is how to retain Von Wafer. :(

It is what I am afraid of.....Von is the first player the Rockets have had in years that I can see going to elite status....Brooks has potential, Landry too, but Von has everything you want in a SG.

Speed, aggression, quickness, jumping ability, finisher....everything.....

We have to sign him, he is more important to this team than I think a lot of people realize.

You want to end scoring droughts? Insert Von.

DD, im with you. Thing is, you can never really be overrated if you get the mle at 23 unless you're a dud. I know a lot of people talk about the mle like its the worse contract in the world. Its really a easy to move contract in terms of the player and team. Salmons,Hedo and Billups were mle players. Von is really the type of guy I've been screaming for many years. If he gets mle and a chance to start, he should go. I wonder if green had been in hosuton in the beginning if he would have some of the same success as wafer? If wafer leaves, I guess you and I will have to crank that machine back up :D

    Leeb,

I am not kidding, Wafer has all star written all over his game, the guy is uber talented.

Those steals he got from behind, the passing on the drive and from the top, those are glimpses of a good basketball mind.

The Rockets can not afford to let him go......GG would be a dissappointing replacement, he is not on the same level BBall IQ wise...nor is he as good of a closer.

Wafer would be priority 1 for me as GM this offseason......not Ron...but Von.

I think he will sign a one year deal and stay. That's the best outcome for both the Rockets and him.

For him, he's still has a lot of things he needs to work on. And I think he and his agent know that his progress and come while playing with the Rockets. It's a big risk to take a 3 year deal with an unknown team for a guy like wafer and then be caught in a situation where he can't get minutes or he clashes with the coach.

He's happy with the Rockets, and he could use another year solidifying his game playing under Adelman.

    I think he's stay for a year.

I really like Wafer so hopefully we can give him a 3yr 9 million dollar contract like Landry. Id rather re sign Wafer and let Ron walk.... Artest shot selection pisses me off

Von's place in the NBA has been tenuous and he does need to keep on improving. I expect him to take the best offer possible. I wouldn't blame him for that.

LOL - VSpan had potential (still does), but for me it was always about seeing if he could replace Rafer whom I thought was Putrid.

This is different, Von is doing it against NBA competition, and he is doing it with great efficiency.

This guy is well worth whatever contract the team is going to give him, he is the real deal.

Part of the beauty of Von is his contract and great bang for the buck. He is a solid player right now, with a lot of potential to be a starting 2 for the next few years. But, if he signs a full MLE contract he loses his value in the bang for buck category.

The Rox need to resign him b/c he represents a type of player the Rox haven't had(outside of TMac) for a long time. Just resign him for a reasonable sum.

    DD, brother,

I understand your love for Von and he sure deserves it. He is a big part of this year's Rockets success and he has been just phenomenal.

Nobody really expected anything big from this guy and he has really helpes us, especially lately.

But to call him an all star caliber player is a little bit too much. We are overrating him as we did with Shane.

Just put it down and walk away, DD, whatever it is, or pass it around! ;)

Seriously, how can you make a post like that? I seriously dig Von Wafer's contributions myself, but I don't think he's worth the MLE, much less "being well worth whatever contract the team is going to give him." Geez! Why not wait until after the playoffs before being willing to offer him The World?

He has all star level talent, that does not mean he will be an all star...but his athleticism, and effort could make him one...

He has the ability.....which as I look up and down the Rocket's roster....there are not many there with it.

I think he is going to become very good, just based upon what I am seeing now......his skill level is pretty darned high, IMO.

His skill level is pretty darned high on the offensive end, but he's nowhere near what he needs to be defensively, especially considering that he has the physical tools to be an outstanding defender. I'm waiting to see how he does during (hopefully) a couple of playoff series before going bananas about the guy. Aren't we his 4th team in three years? Must be some reasons behind that, don't you think? And if that doesn't matter, then all those folks willing to toss Adelman and his staff at the drop of a hat, those that are huge Von Wafer fans, should also be singing the praises of Coach A and company. I'm not including you there, DD, because I know you're a fan of Adelman (like me).

Yes Deckard, but I believe he is coming into his own...this would be his rookie year if he went to college for 4 years.

He is only 23, what it looks like to me is a player who has figured it out, has gone from hoping he belongs to KNOWING he belongs.

And from there, the sky is the limit....

Well, I hope you're right, because Von has already made The Greek look like a middle school player! :p ;)

    Regarding Von,

At 23 to have that type of finishing ability and shot making ability....to have worked so hard on his game to get to this point (after being given up on).....and his D has improved immensely, as soon as he stops jumping at every fake, he is going to be even better, because he has ELITE level quickness....not good, not great...but ELITE....that is a major plus in his favor.

    Regarding VSpan.

The Greek needs to come back to the NBA too....

    :D
