They prolly never even played one his vodeos, not even on MTV2. Yet today they will ride his jock and claim to be all hip with his style meanwhile we have to sit thru another craptastic rendetion by Nelly or PDiddy. MTV SUX. RIP, helluva way to go; a self inflicted stab wound to the chest, wow.
What's really weird is that Spin had a poll sometime this year that asked which Rock 'n Roll bad boy would perish before the end of 2003. Elliot was on the list. He finished last, but it's still weird. http://www.spin.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=NS-Polls&file=index&pollID=5 As for his music, I really liked Son of Sam. Cool song.
no kidding. mtv loves to jump on the bandwagon of bands when something bad happens even if they didnt give the time of day before. ie: ramones, social distortion, ...etc. its mtv though, you cant really expect anything more from them.
very sad day his music was so sweet and beautiful, his lyrics with his melodies was amazing what is with creative artists and suicide. apparently the female friend who found him was his wife/partner, a single stab wound seems a weird way to do it. RIP Elliot
NPR has a nice tribute to him on their website: http://www.npr.org/display_pages/features/feature_1475177.html Under the article click on the "All Songs Considered" profile of Elliott Smith to see a montage of pictures and his biography while the song "Needle in the Hay" plays
i am taken aback..... such a sad thing, his music helped me deal w/the break up of the love of my life that is now my wife. i hope he has found his peace.

With more talent, self-awareness of the tragedies, absurdities, complexities of life evident in the lyrics of just one of his songs than in a lifetime of drunken 3 am posts, combined. I was hoping that this thread was brought up to announce another posthumous album. One of the greats.
Elliott Smith's music calms my mind. Of course, the track Miss Misery will always be at the forefront for me, I love every one of his albums. Listening to Either/Or right now to honor the anniversary.
I still vividly remember reading about his death. I was on the red line crossing over the Charles into Boston. There was a tiny article about his death in the Boston Metro(all of their articles are tiny- hell they're snippets.) That was a sad day.
