I was having a meal with this girl and our tab ended being like 85+ bucks w/o tip. which I think is a lot of money for a meal. I can't even expense this meal without a few eyebrows being raised since it was so expensive. Then she tells me this was not that bad, and that she had a meal that cost 420 for 2. I was just shocked, for 400 bucks I better get more than a meal. Would you ever have a 400 dollar meal for 2? Maybe it is just the bay area and everybody makes a lot.
There are plenty of expensive places to eat. Once in Vegas me and 5 friends had an $8000 meal......6 people 8k....but that included some mighty fine wine.... And a port wine from 1897...yum. For the record, we expensed it. DD
i was at Ruth's Chris with friends one time. i ended up paying 90 bucks for myself for a regular meal. another time, my parents and i ate 400 canadian dollars in a meal. just one of those things that happens once in a while.
I added a salad to my dinner once at Chili's, and also had dessert THAT SAME MEAL. I probably won't do it again soon though.
Most I've spent on 2 people was $150 at Emeril's place NOLA in New Orleans. Best Pork Chops I ever had.
I've done it a couple of times but only at really high caliber restaurants for special occasions (anniversaries, birthdays, etc.). My wife is a chef, so we try to hit some of the stars from time to time, although we do eat out on a routine basis less so we can afford it. Usually we also ordered a pretty fly bottle of wine, which can add $100 to cost of the meal. Also when we go out for a really nice meal at a top place, we tend to order a bunch of courses of food and family style it. We might order 3 entres, 3 apps, and dessert over a 3.5 hour pace. I hit that mark with Cafe Juanita in Seattle (wife's birthday), the Dining Room in SF (when we got engaged, overrated place), Chez Bruno in France (prix fie meal featuring truffles on our anniversary, probably the most decadent meal I've ever had). My wife had a $300 meal just for her at Perche No in NY, but she had the tab picked up (the restaurant she worked for was in town to cook at the Beard House). I would also note that most of my all-time favorite dining experiences came in for far less, but sometimes you gotta live the high-rolling lifestyle.
the meal isn't what gets you, it's the bottles of wine. I think $400 tab was the most a tab for 2 cost me. appetizers, dinner, dessert and an expensive bottle of wine. Would have easily been more but we only had 1 bottle. I don't mind getting 1 overpriced bottle of wine but 2 is a bit much.
I've had the good fortune of eating at Fat Duck in London. Took my girlfriend at the time and I ended up spending £300. For an extra £125 each we could have had a wine pairing which would have put us over £500. The meal was amazing.
