Preachers get on the pulpit because they want to tell people what they know is right. Why would one give up the spotlight? If I were a black man that had come of age during the 50's and 60's, I'd of probably been a Black Panther. And I'd still be pissed. This country has systematically discriminated against the black race since their enslavement; Poll taxes, separate schools, no access to credit, second class status, low wages, psychological abuse; it still effects the greater percentage black population to this day. Let the man preach about our national sins. It helps us repent. It's not unpatriotic and he ain't wrong.
Why should I be blamed for this? I (or my family, for that matter) had nothing to do with it. I don't have to repent for anything related to this. If it makes you feel good to repent and satisfy your white guilt 50 years after this mess ended, then go for it.
Somebody forgot to send me the memo that systematic and institutional racism was successfully eradicated by 1958. Would you mind forwarding it?
Black people, this very day, are still suffering from discrimination. You are deluding yourself if you think there is racial equality in this country. You and your family do contribute to it if only by your benign acceptance; as do I.
Find me one frequent Mass going Catholic who fully argees with their Church's very firm and public stances on the death penality, abortion and migration.
That's gotta be the most delusional set of statements I've ever seen in 6 years on this BBS, regarding anything, including basketball. That's saying something.
I guess growing up in churches, and having a mother who was an ordained Pastor doesn't qualify me as knowing what goes on in churches. The fact that Wright infused politics in sermons has nothing to do with whether or not Obama sought political advise from him, or agreed with his politics at all.
I think the Reverend Wright is talking about national sin not personal sin... or responsibility. Thus the "GD America" which is essentially calling down God's judgment on America (the same notion got Falwell in trouble because he laid the responsibility at the feet of some citizens not the national body).
Am I the only person here not surprised? I would hope not. Just because giddy gets "giddy" from time to time doesn't mean giddy's giddy... know what I'm sayin'? Impeach Bush. (now, if giddy would agree with impeaching Bush, everything would be peachy!)
Who are these clowns saying that Wright's quotes were taken 'out of context' and that you have to listen to the whole speech to understand them? Sorry, but what is the PROPER CONTEXT to say things like Al Qaeda and the USA are using the same techniques, or to say God Damm America, or dry hump a podium in front of kids at Church, or say that the US deserved 9-11? Give me a break, there is NO WAY to spin such unbelievably irresponsible and ignorant comments. Yet Obama sat there for 20 years listening to them and bringing his family to learn from the man. Unreal.
Gawd this man is ignorant, as are the incredibly poorly behaved fans in the audience here. What an ego-maniac. The crowd acts like they are at a Jerry Springer taping... I can't believe there are people who actually support this guy. Unreal. <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Onr6RwCqqcM&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Onr6RwCqqcM&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object> "he talkin' bout their momma's" isn't a phrase that educated people use in a press conference, lol
do you know mccain said himself that he doesn't believe that Obama thinks anything like wright? why won't you listen to your own nominee?
Very defensive and at the same time very aggressive for a pastor - and very vein and attention-seeking. Seems like an egomaniacal lunatic to me. Of all the things you try to throw against the wall against Obama, the fact that he listened to this wacko for 20 years sticks the most, in my mind. The best the Obama camp could do would be to lock this guy up somewhere until after the election.
I find it interesting in Obama's body language speaking on Wright, saying "he has no attachment,. etc"...All the while, he has lost his famous smile, he is looking down to the ground... He may not admit it, but he has to be regretting the strong connections of the past... As a Republican, I invite Wright to continue to spew...Let us know how we deserved 9/11,...Let us know how Obama has not distanced himself, but only seemingly because of him being a "politician",...let us know he wants to be the VP,...Let us know a declaration of G-D America!...
