I don't get it. What's the big deal with people wearing Polo shirts? I don't get why so many people think it's wrong. Please explain...
I wish I could find the old, old thread for you. It is mercifully buried. It was a moment of my greatest shaming, as Clutchfans told me where I could stick my pretentious anti-polo stance.
It just depends on where you see yourself; as part of the culture or part of the counter-culture. One tends to gravitate to where one is accepted. The Polo Shirt is an icon of being within the culture and the black T-shirt is an icon of being in the counter-culture. Smugness and superiority are self justifying mechanisms for both views.
Are we taling about Polo shirts as in the type of shirt, or the brand. Either way, I don't see what the problem is. If you want to where one, do it, and F anybody else's opinion if they have a problem with it.
People are too caught up in trying to perceive what is "mainstream" and what is "counter-culture" to just decide what they like and dislike.
clarification is needed...brand or style? regardless, there is nothing wrong with wearing them. They get somewhat of a bad rep because of some of the tools that wear them (e.g. wearing multiple, color up, really tight, pink, etc) but if just wear it normally like one should there isnt a problem.
I didn't know they could make clothing out of milk proteins! That is so cool. And I'm not sure about the OP, but when I say "polo" I mean the style, the mullet of shirts, business up top, party on bottom.
"sportin ralph lauren i'm never borrowing since the second grade kikki had his mind on foreign" for you screw heads out there
Undershirt? That's what I was wondering...the brand, or the generic name for the style? I wear them for business casual work dress. Don't really care for it too much just because I don't like the feeling of a collar, I prefer t-shirts (which my gf is trying to wean me off of because I need to dress more like an 'adult'). One of my few rules on clothes is no logos. I just personally find it gaudy, but that's just for myself (and no, I don't make judgment calls on someone just because they wear something w/ a logo.) The only exceptions are school logos or sports teams.
Man.....I don’t recall such a discussion, but we had a guy here at the office that used to pick on those of us who would wear Polo's (I wear Polo "style" shirts made by Polo). He said something to me once, and I just looked at him like he was a moron. I would never claim to be a fashionista, but this guy looked like slob. He lasted.......ohhhhh..........about two months. Anyway, I wear Polo's for the same reason I wear Levi's........and to borrow a phrase from one of Levi's old ad campaigns---quality never goes out of style. Ralph Lauren Polo's stand up to a LOT of washings and continue to look good. I hate to shop, I hate to waste money on clothes, and I like to be comfortable, so I will continue to wear Polo's; but now that I'm aware that there is some contingent out there against them, I'll be prepared the next time someone makes any noise about it..........that is, once I'm able to contain my laughter at their pretentiousness.
Man.........you were shamed. Macbeth came to your rescue. 'nuff said I have a lime green polo on right now. And Levis. And I don't give a rat's ass what anyone thinks.
