There are still ways to develop your game without getting into the rotation. They could take these last months to help him learn the offense and see how he fits. Battier and Deke could teach him some defense. And he'll definitely learn from the player he copied his game from, T-Mac. I can already picture T-Mac grooming Green to be his successor. The kid has all the right tools and now has to learn how to use them properly. Not to mention that he'll be playing in scrimmages with the team. Just the thought of Skip running the fast break with Green running with him makes me salivate. Hey, maybe Green could actually put some butts in the seats of the TC.........okay, maybe that is too much of a reach.
Your whole post is kinda of a reach LOL. None of the players are going to go out of their way to give this guy the VIP treatment. Why should they, Green is just another dude passing through to them. Tmac will prolly just glance at him and think "scrub" when he sees Green and then will dunk all over him in practice. Eventually the kid will realize he's just another journeyman roster filler in the NBA if he's lucky enough to stay in the league. Why? It's not like they are going to put a cupcake on the goal for him in the middle of the game. Maybe he can join those dunking RPDs that jump on the trampoline, prolly the only way he gets on the floor.
What are you talking about? Gerald Green is now their teammate, I'm sure none of the Rockets mind helping this kid out. He's going to be spending a lot of time with the team in practices and everything else. Is everyone just going to ignore him? And why would they? Since when did helping out your teammate become "VIP treatment"? These guys are professionals, not high school students that will shun the new kid. What is the problem you have with Green? You sound like he banged your mom or something.
Exactly. Why wouldn't T-Mac (and others) help him out when he comes in? He is their teammate, has a lot of talent, and is very athletic. He just needs more basketball IQ, which T-Mac, Battier, Deke, and others can give to him. Come playoff time, with the right treatment, he can be really good for us.
The Gerald Green fantasy begins. Gerald Green = project. McHale said Green is the most not NBA ready player among the young players in T-Pups. The Rockets are really spending money on this kid to take a deep look at his potentials. Gerald Green = JR Smith ver 2.0. Tons of natural talents. To get these kids understand how to play in NBA games is so difficult. In a perfect world, they are better off going to college and playing college ball. But at least Green has a straight head and he's a hard worker.
Just keeping it real. You guys act like he really has a chance to see PT. I'm all for cautious curiosity which is all this guy should warrant but you guys giving him blind optimism. Big difference. Btw you can't use the "banged your mom" joke on someone who came up with it. And Green couldn't hold a cupcake candle to Bill Worrell in the art of MILF hunting. Just ask mlwoo.
I think the majority of folks know he probably won't get playing time or fill Bonzi's role. People just see that he could have a very bright future. He has the right tools. Very athletic on both sides, Good shooting form and is still very young. He just needs the right mentoring and tutoring. Nothing better than to learn from a guy you looked up to. haha c'mon man, i commend you for that classic comment in the Worrell thread but I'm sure you aren't the first to say a "banged your mom" joke.
I think pro athletes being "mentors" is more something in the minds of fans than actual reality. I'm willing to bet very few players take a younger player "under their wing" for personal apprenticeship....STILL, to say they wont help AT ALL the way you describe it, is also extreme and out of touch. I'll assume thats more hyperbole than actual belief. Why would Gerald Green need to "realize" he's a journeyman, other than just to prove a few people "right"? WE the fans can think that cuz we're not players but why put that thought into a young player's mind? Its not like he's 25.
Yeah, but since I made it a classic I grant myself immunity from such jokes. LOL Like I said, just keeping it real. The players will give him the usual pointers and advice to a young clueless guy, but he'll be an afterthought to them. The vets should be giving all their attention to Landry Brooks and Novak, which I'm sure they have been. Besides, all the advice given to Green will prolly go out the other ear anyways.
For those who have watched Gerald play, is he really as daft as folks make him out to be? I was watching some Rocket highlights from earlier this season and saw the way Bonzi finished on the break and cut to the basket in a half court set. I have to believe Gerald can do something similar. He put up some decent numbers when he was with the Celtics. I'm just not sure why Morey says he won't play much at all. I think his energy, ala Landry, off the bench could be a great asset.
Does anyone find it odd that we've yet to hear from Green or Jackson or anything about them from the Chronicle? Will they even be present at Toyota Center tonight (either suited up or in streetwear)
The "good" part of getting Gerald Green now is he's been semi-seasoned. It takes time with a kid like Green and the Rockets could get the benefit of natural time progression and maturity that comes with it. He still might not cut in the NBA now, but I could see him being a Jamario Moon type. Someone who plays overseas in several leagues and comes back to the NBA years later.
I haven't finished watching the game yet but I am pretty sure this is one of the toe jerk reactions......taking it he had a good game.....and to answer any other questions, no.
