Obama was at least third on my list of preferred nominees, after Gore and Edwards. That said, he's definitely inspirational, both personally and the historic role he's playing right now. This video, putting his words to music, is pretty powerful political theater. Plus, it's got some smoking hot babes. <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/jjXyqcx-mYY&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/jjXyqcx-mYY&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>
I thought it was a great video, but, for some reason, also reminded me of this... <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/4dkODNazcss&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/4dkODNazcss&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>
Summary of video for those who are too lazy to watch: Do you feel sorry for black people since their ancestors were opressed for many years? Do you like MLK speeches (and wanna-be's who try to mimic them)? Do you like 2-second sound bytes spoken by a guy with a deep voice? Do you not care about substance, but rather delivery of a speech? if so, you've found your man: Barack Hussein Obama
i'm sick of the black people who feel their "owed" something that happened over 100 years ago? how does this have any impact in their lives now? it's just a petty excuse for their ignorance. slavery was around since the beginning of time and it's still here today, although it's a different form of slavery. when your parents sell you to become a prostitute or some factory worker, do you really have a choice? i put blame on the people selling slaves rather than the people buying them. if i was poor, had no education, and my country had no jobs, i wouldn't mind being sold to be a slave. at least i'll have a job, clothes, roof over my head and food. when you're living in extreme poverty, anything is better than starving to death.
Let's see the % of Latinos and Asians who vote for Obama on Tuesday. That's what I'm focused on. They do not have the white guilt factor impacting their decision making process. As depicted on Hillary's backdoor campaign site Hillaryis44.com, we just don't know what we are getting with Obama. It's like buying a nickle bag of pot and then finding out you got oregano.
A week or two ago, you insisted he couldn't appeal to white people. Good to see you've already found an excuse in case the data doesn't fit your theory.
Impressive video. Who were all the people in it? I recognized Scarlett Johannson, Nicole Scherzinger and John Legend (who, by the way, is a fellow former BCG consultant). Who were the others?
I don't totally agree with his entire post, or the seemingly assumption that the slave market were filled by people willing to be slaves, but... How is that sentence ignorant. Throughout history, what he said seems to be the norm and accepted rather than the exception, when it comes to human thinking and society in general. When people's basic needs(food, clothing, shelter) are not met, they don't think like normal people with spare time to write stuff on internet message boards. And slavery really is just an extreme form of servitude, even if people like to make it seem completely separate idea.
I actually was referring to the ignorance of his entire post, not just what I quoted; people were sold as property, lacking personal liberty/freedom/basic human rights….all not by choice. He’s saying people should move on….says it happens everywhere…..but I don’t think he gets the magnitude or scope of the slave trade era. Don't think any race other than the Jews have been through so much crap.
I think you are the ignorant one here. The slavery forced the black people of America to become an underclass of people. The institutionalized racism against black people in America is playing a huge role in their current social and economical problems. This is even more stupid. Most african slaves in America were not sold by their parents, they were kidnapped by some of their rival tribes in africa and some white people, and forced into slavery in America. The blame is solely on their kidnappers and slave masters. Do you also like being treated like someone's property and used as an animal whose life is valued no different than a dog or a roll of toilet paper? The african slaves were not living in extreme poverty in their native lands. They were living simple lives of hunting and gathering. They never asked to become slaves. Slavery is death to most slaves, only it's much more prolonged and painful.
I think one of the most important jobs for the President is to motivate people to want to do better. In my opinion Barack motivates people to want to get out there help themselves, while Hillary is trying to convince people that she will take care of them.
I don't want to sound preachy, but it seems you're not exactly in tune with how the world has worked throughout history, and even today. If you have not been to urban slums and rural areas of 3rd world countries(actually been there yourself rather than through the sanitized TV clips), you'd certainly not make that statement. And really, the US(although you may be from Canada given your screenname, but the point stands) is no different. People working the crop fields are making way below minimum wage under horrible working conditions, for one example. For a historical example, I wouldn't be so sure that the treatment was slaves can be considered worse than the treatment of the Native Indians. I don't want to sound like I'm defending slavery. I don't like slavery, mainly because the terms are too extreme for my taste. But I've worn many Nikes made by people working under horrific conditions in Asia. I've eaten many veggies picked by immigrant workers. I've eaten at restaurant in China served by waitresses making little money and sharing a room with other workers. So I'm obviously condoning human exploitation, of which slavery is the extreme form of. I simply cannot have a holier-than-thou attitude on issues like this, or I'd be a hypocrite.
