There's plenty of racism in the world. But I don't think most churches are racist. I think that statement says more about you than it does churches. I think the original question is valid. If any church focused on solely white concerns, would it not be considered racist, and rightfully so?
I think this statement says alot more about your reading comprehension skills. go back and see what I responded to, no where did I say churches are racists. just segregated by race
Generally, folks join the Catholic Church that is nearest to them so it is not surprising that some are predominatly of a particular race. I've been to St. Monicas in Acres Homes and I would not be surprised if the official membership was 99-100% black. It was kind of funny when we went to Mass there and the Priest asked any newcomers to stand up and just about everyone in the church turned and looked at us before we even had a chance to stand. Meanwhile I suspect my church in the Minnesota Twin Cities suburbs is well over 95% white. Off the top of my head, I can think of two black families that belong (and a few others that show up every now and then). There are a few Hispanic families and a few Asian. We have a "sister" parish that we have a special collection for once a month that is primarily Hispanic.
so one else said it best, I'm sure if a white person wanted to attend this church they would be welcomed. what the church does to help the community its in is unique to the community. this discussion is stupid and trying to argue that this church is racist is equally stupid. its not like they are promoting the supremecy of the black race. they're trying to help people in their community.
Considering the state of blacks in America vs whites in America, there's a reason for presence of NAACP's and other organizations that are race specific. It is to help with the advancement of a race that through its country's past has been held back compared to other races, especially white. So there should be nothing wrong with having statutes that cater to blacks. Having the same for whites is like a default. You're going to build a church solely to advance whites. (You have that) You want a T.V. station that caters to whites (YOu have that.) YOu want a restaurant that caters to the white taste (You have that.) The fact that you don't say is for whites is moot because it is automatic to assume it is. You ever heard of white man's world. In a sense that is America. So to have organizations that lend their resources to certain groups that have been left behind, enslaved, treated as 3/5ths of a man, not given the right to vote, pyschologically enslaved, by the country it helped to build does not bother me whatsoever. Do white people need an NAAWP? or a T.V. station W.E.T.......I didn't think so.
We will never know the motives of Obama's spiritual change. But why does it matter? Honestly that's between him and God. Religion is a practice of your beliefs. Unfortunately when you group people together sometimes the dynamic takes over moving away from the original idea it was created. I myself want a Christian president and a person who lives by those ideals because that is what the country is "supposed" to be based on. Regardless of if others want to remove it from gov't. Religion does nothing to hurt or diminish society. People do that just fine. Unfortunately a few people can effect the perception of a group. CHUUCH.
A friend just forwarded me this email that his cousin forwarded to him. The subject line was "Who is Barack Obama?" Sounds like Jorge might have written it, except that we all know he would have included a bunch of racist junk as well. People, Wake up !!!!! We all do know he is from the country of which the Bible tells us the Anti-Christ will rise from. So think about this, and pray a lot. Who is Barack Obama? Very interesting and something that should be considered in your choice. If you do not ever forward anything else, please forward this to all your contacts...this is very scarey to think of what lies ahead of us here in our own United States...better heed this and pray about it and share it. We checked this out on "snopes.com". It is factual. Check for yourself. Who is Barack Obama? Probable U. S. presidential candidate, Barack Hussein Obama was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, to Barack Hussein Obama, Sr., a black MUSLIM from Nyangoma-Kogel , Kenya and Ann Dunham, a white ATHIEST from Wichita, Kansas. Obama's parents met at the University of Hawaii. When Obama was two years old, his parents divorced. His father returned to Kenya. His mother then married Lolo Soetoro, a RADICAL Muslim from Indonesia. When Obama was 6 years old, the family relocated to Indonesia. Obama attended a MUSLIM school in Jakarta . He also spent two years in a Catholic school. Obama takes great care to conceal the fact that he is a Muslim. He is quick to point out that, "He was once a Muslim, but that he also attended Catholic school." Obama's political handlers are attempting to make it appear that he is not a radical. Obama's introduction to Islam came via his father, and that this influence was temporary at best. In reality, the senior Obama returned to Kenya soon after the divorce, and never again had any direct influence over his son's education. Lolo Soetoro, the second husband of Obama's mother, Ann Dunham, introduced his stepson to Islam. Obama was enrolled in a Wahabi school in Jakarta. Wahabism is the RADICAL teaching that is followed by the Muslim terrorists who are now waging Jihad against the western world. Since it is politically expedient to be a CHRISTIAN when seeking major public office in the United States , Barack Hussein Obama has joined the United Church of Christ in an attempt to downplay his Muslim background. ALSO, keep in mind that when he was sworn into office he DID NOT use the Holy Bible, but instead the Koran. Barack Hussein Obama will NOT recite the Pledge of Allegience nor will he show any reverence for our flag. While others place their hands over their hearts, Obama turns his back to the flag and slouches. Let us all remain alert concerning Obama's expected presidential candidacy. The Muslims have said they plan on destroying the US from the inside out, what better way to start than at the highest level - through the President of the United States , one of their own!!!! Please forward to everyone you know. Would you want this man leading our country?
giddyup: I'm interested in your thoughts on the above email. Surely you already got it since you subscribe to all crank chain emails. We all know there's not a lick of truth in it, but do you think we should debate it on the merits of the arguments anyway? Even though it's all lies, what do you think? Obama is the anti-Christ, true or false?
They way I understood it the Anti-Christ would rise up out of the now European Union. Besides, the only person alive today with the power the Anti-Christ is supposed to have is from America. Her name is Oprah Winfrey. At least, as far as I can tell. Would have to be a solid rise to power, and I dont think that would happen in America. Even if Obama were elected President, pulling off what the Anti-Christ is supposed to in America seems pretty farfetched, especially given the skeptical nature of the US.
I do know that he wont pledge to the American flag. Which is reason enough to disallow him from being president. Cant command an army to defend a flag that you won't salute/pledge.
It's all true until he denies it, texxx. Just like reparations. The scariest part is he's never denied being the ANTI-CHRIST!!!
I agree with this. I have serious reservations about the guy - nobody knows him very well and just see the well spoken black guy and get overwhelmed by their white guilt and support him.
I don't have a link to the pledge, but I do have one for the national anthem. Bats, not sure how you missed this one:
Hah, scratch that, turns out it was a picture out of context. Thats what I get from not following up every piece of junk I hear. I do remember thinking "WTF" when I heard it though....
