I'm inclined to say 1999, since two of my top 10 came out then, The Matrix and Fight Club. The rest of the crop is mediocre, but these two tip the scales for me.

    1995 was a great year.

Toy Story - greatest animated movie ever?
    Batman Forever
    Apollo 13
    Ace Ventura 2
    Goldeneye
    Se7en
    Die Hard: With a Vengeance
    Crimson Tide
    Braveheart
    Get Shorty
    Heat
    Bad Boys
    12 Monkeys
    Clueless
    Casino

And last but not least, in my opinion, the greatest movie of all-time came from 1995: BILLY MADISON!

Also, it's pretty damn hard to beat the top 16 from '06.

    1. Pirates of the Caribbean
    2. Night at the Museum
    3. Cars
    4. X-Men: The Last Stand
    5. The Da Vinci Code
    6. Superman Returns
    7. Happy Feet
    8. Ice Age: The Meltdown
    9. Casino Royale
    10. The Pursuit of Happyness
    11. Over the Hedge
    12. Talladega Nights
    13. Click
    14. Mission: Impossible III
    15. The Departed
    16. Borat

Over the hedge, the Da vinci code, Talladega Nights, and MI3 were not very good. I didnt see all of the ones on that list, but I know those I listed were bad.

Yeah, I didn't see Over the Hedge, I reallllly didn't like Da Vinci Code (after reading the book first), but I thought MI3 was good. Obviously, it wasn't good as the first because that's a classic, but way better than MI2. You can't knock Talladega, though; that movie is the essence of hilarious. I think it's one of the funnier movies in recent years, many would agree, but to each his own.

I haven't seen Night at the Museum or the Pursuit of Happyness, either, but from what I've heard they belong. So again, those 16 are quite a compilation of movies.

    http://us.imdb.com/Sections/Years/1989/top-grossing

    1989 deserves mention

    251,188,924 Batman (1989)
197,171,806 Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989)
    147,253,986 Lethal Weapon 2 (1989)
    140,088,813 Look Who's Talking (1989)
    130,724,200 Honey, I Shrunk the Kids (1989)
118,500,000 Back to the Future Part II (1989)
    112,494,738 Ghostbusters II (1989)
    109,859,444 The Little Mermaid (1989)
    106,593,296 Driving Miss Daisy (1989)
    100,047,830 Parenthood (1989)

Plus, the greatest cult movie of all time, UHF...

My personal favorite year, in the sheer number of quality movies, was 1996.

    306,124,059 Independence Day (1996)
    241,688,385 Twister (1996)
    180,981,706 Mission: Impossible (1996)
    153,620,822 Jerry Maguire (1996)
    136,448,821 Ransom (1996)
    136,182,161 101 Dalmatians (1996)
    134,006,721 The Rock (1996)
    128,769,345 The Nutty Professor (1996)
    123,986,682 The Birdcage (1996)
    108,706,165 A Time to Kill (1996)

The only movie on that list that I didn't like was The Birdcage. I haven't seen 101 Dalmations.

The correct answer is 1980, which gave us The Empire Strikes Back, Airplane!, Superman II, Stir Crazy, and the Blue Lagoon (with a super hot nekkid Brooke Shields). Not to mention the birth of the legend that is StupidMoniker.

    1994 Without a doubt

True Lies = Greatest action flick ever.

Had the perfect balance of humor, over the top stunts, and never a dull moment.

I like Night at the Museum and Pursuit of Happyness. I found MI3 boring. And Talladega night was really overrated. Blades of Glory was much, much better imo.
