that show was one of the most crazy i have ever been too. it was sweaty and packed and everyone was going nuts and slam dancing. i think that was the pinnacle of the beastie boys career(1992). their live show was great - one song would be a rap than they would jump on their instruments and do some santana style jams than mike d would jump off the drums and sing lead on some 45 second punk dirge.

i dont think much 80's/early 90's rap has held up well. aside from beasties, even public enemy, run dmc or nwa sound really dated these days. i would say that tribe called quest has held up the best of all the earlier groups. they still sound innovative to me. the jazz influence really sets them apart.

crystal meth is a hell of a drug...

they got the jazz..they got the jazz.

just like ringling brothers, they'll daze and astound. :D

sorry..just on a Tribe kick this morning. can i kick it? :) see..can't stop. (which, coincidentally, was the title of a song by a group called After 7, which has nothing to do with this discussion at all.)

I spend the last few days at the Beastie Boys message board talking about basketball and look what I miss!!

glad to see the love for the Three, theres always a "they suck" post in these music threads but "if you dont like it then Hey F*ck You..."

what most people think when they think Beastie Boys is "Girls" or "Paul revere" but fail to realize they have a 20 year career covering genres of hip-hop, funk, punk, and metal...

they have evolved as musicians, as well as becoming more mature and spiritually aware...

their positive energy is infectious, their recent Pageant Tour will go down as one of their finest tours ever... seeing MCA on bass, Mike D on Drums, and Adrock on guitars playing "somethings Got To Give" reminds you that they are skilled at playing their instruments as well.

they like to have fun, they like to goof off, they shout out their people, they play basketball before every concert, they speak out politically and they inspire a whole generation of young people to think for themselves...

manny, you should check out Ill Communication, Hello Nasty, and To The 5 Boroughs... that spans a time period from 1994 to 2004, when they switched DJs from Hurricane to Mix Master Mike and put down their instruments to return to some old school electronic beats...

also you see the evolution of Adam Yauchs spirituality, particularly in IC's "bodhisattva vow", Yauchs devotion to Buddhism is laid down on an album for all the world to hear...

theres more to the Beastie Boys then people think...

    Get It Together(with Q-Tip)
    So Whatcha Want
    Root Down
    Open Letter tO NYC
    Rickys Theme
Lookin Down The Barrel of a Gun
    Song For The Man
Dr Lee P.H.D(with Scratch Lee Perry)
    All Lifestyles
    A Year and a Day

I met MCA in 2003, and I was one of the camera operators for their "Live at MSG DVD" which should be out this summer... ch-check it out!!

Shake Your Rump was so far ahead of it's time in 1989 that I am convinced the Beasties are time travellers
