I didn't realize that the attendance at Toyota Center was so horrible until I saw this blurb in this article: http://www.jsonline.com/sports/buck/feb05/300733.asp Bottom Seven Rockets (15,427), Boston Celtics (15,311), Orlando Magic (14,854), Charlotte Bobcats (14,591), New Jersey Nets (14,466), New Orleans Hornets (13,875) and the Atlanta Hawks (13,118)
yeah its been pretty bad. I noticed that most of the sections on the bottom level behind the goals were like completely empty last night (you could still see the flyers that were attached to each seat). If the Rockets keep on winning the attendence will go up but iam not sure that the Rockets get back into the top ten next season unless they make a deep playoff run. I guess having two super-stars on your team doesnt necessarily mean that you will sell out. Anyone know where they ranked last year? I thought they were about the 15-18 range but iam not sure.
I have a feeling this is going to change soon.. their style of play is 10000x more exciting than it was last year and from earlier in the season. When I'm not busy with classes, I'll splurge on a game.
Attendance will probably pick up since we've been winning, but tickets in the lower bowl are too expensive. To sit at the lower bowl in the middle section is like $80-90 bucks.
15000 is actually an improvement over the ~13000 the team was averaging at Compaq. Toyota Center only seats 18300, so it's over 80% full on average.
Nothing new. Rockets attendance has always been crap. Front office who handles entertainment needs to be fired. It's ridiculous.
Ah, but the question is: are the tickets selling? The tickets might have been purchased but are going to waste. Filling seats is not the same as selling tickets. -- droxford
Good question. The post says average "attendance" which sounds like people who show up, but you never know.
If they are selling the tickets that aren't filling, why don't they setup a plan to get those seats filled by real fans?
Attendance is largely a function of how you did the season before. They drive season ticket sales. And....tickets are ridiculously expensive. The average joe ain't taking his wife and kids to an NBA basketball game. It's cost-prohibitive, unless you want to sit at the top of the arena. Oh, and by the way...those $10 seats are usually sold out.
Many of the tickets in the lower bowl, especially the club seating between the baselines, are owned by companies (and are quite pricey) so unless they are given away the seat may not get filled. The ones up top are more reasonable but they need to hand out binoculars to the fans so they can see the players on the court....lol...and they are IMHO pretty dangerous due to the steep angle.
