OK, I have a problem with this — Hakeem with Wemby

Maybe it's because he's so visible but of all the players you hear about"working with Hakeem," in the off-season, Wemby is the one who came back with elite footwork and dream like fadeaways

 

Its criminal that the Rockets didnt get that #1 pick. Fck..

 

Kel'el Ware working with Hakeem is like Jalen Green working with Peja Stojakovic.

 

If Hakeem would've got paid what some of these dudes get paid today, he wouldn't have to work.

No offense to Hakeem, but I just don’t see any of the tutoring he has done as having much of an effect. Maybe there is some intangible work ethic that rubs off.

 

Would it not be EXTREMELY difficult to tell if it does or does not help?

Players rarely play back to the basket anymore like Hakeem so you aren't likely to see players doing Hakeem things like reading the way players shade him on the block and that sweet counter footwork anymore - even if they learned a thing or two from Hakeem, they aren't getting the same reps Hakeem did in his era and thus that skillset will never be perfected to the level Hakeem did....also, I wouldn't be shocked if Wemby breaks' Hakeem blocks record if his body holds up but you could say that's more a function of his size than Hakeem's training.

More power to him. He was great for this city and I loved watching the man play basketball. I really don’t care who he coaches. Everybody is entitled to do what they want in a free country as long as they aren’t trampling on anybody else’s rights.

Hakeem was a great player. Who knows if he is a good coach? I don’t care who pays him for his time. It’s his time and their money. It’s hard to ascertain what any of the guys he has trained has taken away from it. At least with Carrol Dawson you could see the impact he had on both Hakeem and Thorpe with the baby hook. Hakeem’s skillset was so unique, I’m not sure he can teach it.
