I thought Durnin was going to be a below slot signing. At this point I will be really surprised if they get Tronstein. I'm just hoping they have enough for Beck.
Durnin's pre-draft rankings were all over the place...lowest I saw was BA at 319, highest was Overslot at 74
Available budget for overslot: $3,203,835 What do you think Keon Johnson and Beau Peterson sign for? More than $1,500,000 for either? $1,500,000 is second round money. You gotta think that it would not take much to get Jack Beck to walk away Georgia Southern. Keon Johnson: $1,500,000 ($846,900 + $653,100) Beau Peterson: $1,500,000 ($569,600 + 930,400) James Tronstein: $1,500,000 ($150,000 + $1,350,00) Jack Beck: $420,335 ($150,00 + 270,335)
My guesses are Johnson gets $1.8M and Peterson gets $2.1M. I have seen a lot of smoke that people are shocked at how big their bonuses are expected to be. I think Beck could probably be had for $500k. I think Tronstein was taken as a hedge for Peterson/Johnson and his ask was probably somethin like $1.5M.
The Pretty crazy. Keon I thought maybe $1.25M Peterson a bit of a wild card, I thought $1.5M Tronstein I thought also $1.5M range
OP updated again. Radel and Mendes both had the $2500 contingency money shaved off their reported bonuses. They're most likely not getting Tronstein unless Beck agrees to mid-4th round money or something.
Interview with Over-Slot Joe Doyle ETA: TL;DR: Houston wanted the best deal that they could get at 1.17 HSers are getting more money than expected Houston will sign Keon Johnson and Beau Peterson and maybe Jack Beck Logan Hughes Jack Radel is a 3/4 starting pitcher who can pitch 180 innings per year Wes Mendes will move faster than Jack Radel since has more polish Keon Johnson has excellent bat to ball skills, gap to gap hitter, lacks explosive twitch Beau Peterson as top 50 pick entering into his senior seasion but under-performed, raw power has not showed yet Kam Durnin has second round value, great pitch selection, projects as legit above avergae MLB SS, hot in Ohama, Pena replacement Michael Addari is a low launcher with 5 pitches, MLB leverage reliever Jack Beck had a huge combine performance, big pop Owen Nowak was one of the toughest bats to strike out in college Rashawn Galloway is a LF instead of C, bat to ball and exit velocity skills are elite Ben Tryon was ranked 130 at the start of the season
Uh, if the math is right, they've exceeded the pool + 5% amount Oh hell, they did by $5,000. If the $2500 contingency is removed from Johnson's and Peterson's bonuses, they stayed under by $1.
They really need to upgrade/patch the nerd cave super computer if they're messing up these calculations.
If they exceeded it and lost their 1st round pick next year, Dana Brown should be fired immediately. The Astros must think pretty highly of both those kids. For context, Walker Janek only got $3.1M and Brice Matthews only got $2.48M. Maybe Beck and Tronstein are willing to sign for $150,000.50?
