Just saw it, very well done. An epic in every sense of the word. Violent as hell but can be cleaned up enough to show in a high school literature class. Damon was great, Holland was great, Hathaway was great, Rob Patt was great. I think because I read the story in high school I especially enjoyed this movie, so many "oh yeah" moments. Great job by Nolan, this one looks like a classic

She wasn't achilles, she played a soldier that gets killed in the first minute of the movie while guarding the trojan horse, total of maybe five minutes of screen time because she comes back to **** with Odysseus in the second act. The story could've gone on without the character but it adds a little something at the end for one of the main antagonists...BTW I don't remember Achilles being mentioned in this movie at all, the greatest warrior is portrayed as Agamemnon, knowing his fate it would've been cool if Nolan had Brad Pitt cameo during the battle of Troy

3 hours? No thanks. Why can’t movies be 90 mins no more? Wait I thought we’re mad at Travis Scott he’s not in the movie?

Gotta wait for 1.43:1 until August so I might just see in Digital IMax first.

Lol Nolan, if you want more people to see it, use another format....

For those not able to see for a couple days I’d recommend watching Oppenheimer right before.

Without getting too into spoilers (for a story older than the bible) Oppenheimer is a story about a man grappling with the weight of his invention of something that will kill a lot of people and cause wars. Where the Odyssey is someone who already created something that led to devastation, violence and war. This is someone basically dealing with that weight after the fact where Oppenheimer is him dealing with what could be.

This movie is much more powerful than I was anticipating on so many levels. It’s not perfect by any stretch but it delivers more than you’d think.

One thing I’d warn you on is just come in expecting non-linear story telling. It’s frustrating at times but just hang on because there is a big reason why Nolan does this and it pays off in the 3rd act.

Also Matt Damon… I was scratching my head beforehand but the dude delivers here. Pattison, the lady who plays Circe, and Lupita are also standouts imo. Even though the Lupita N. scenes are scarce. Zendaya also don’t sleep on her role here. Not what you think and she does a lot in a very limited but important role.

Plan to watch it Monday, the IMAX weekend crowds are a bit dense for my taste.

The amount of people that were furious that Page was playing Achilles told me everything a needed to know about where most of the pre release complaints were actually coming from. This actors mere existence in the movie ignited fury, never mind what role they were actually playing. They needed them to be Achilles for their snowflake rage.

Page does not play Achilles. Doesn't really effect the story, maybe five minutes of screen time total. Travis Scott is practically an extra, he has one line that he repeats for fifteen seconds at the beginning and fifteen seconds near the end, doesn't effect the movie at all. The people complaining about this movie complain for sport. No one complained about Bowie in The Prestige or Harry Styles in The Dunkirk. Besides the music being a little too "New Orleans" in the third act (Interstellar theme would've induced tears) the movie is ****ing fantastic, with all the action, the three hours fly, I would legit watch a five hour version if its ever released lol. Saw it on Thursday, taking my kids to see it Tuesday.

Was just educated that the music in the third act was played on an ancient greek instrument called an aulos. Two flutes played together that for some reason my ears thought was a French horn. The musicians for the movie had to learn how to play the ****ing things then made a score for a 250 million dollar movie with them lol

I tried watching Oppenheimer and gritted my teeth through almost an hour before giving up on it. Absolute boring mess. I can tell it's a good movie but I just don't see the appeal. I guess I'm just not artsy enough. I am looking forward to the Odyssey though.

There’s clips on the internet for Oppenheimers ending scene id recommend watching before if you can’t watch the whole thing.

The most important scene towards the end of the Odyssey really hits home the important theme here with both films. It’s like the last 3 minutes and Albert Einstein is discussing with Oppenheimer what the the hell they just did. When you get to THAT scene in the Odyssey you’ll know why.

But yeah I don’t bemoan anyone who doesn’t want to sit through Oppenheimer. Especially on a normal home tv.

Nearly seven decades after Ben Hur, and all the technology and entertainment options that have developed since, a “sword and sandal” movie can still be a blockbuster at theaters.
