Nah. If having guys throw 3-4 innings at a time would work, the Rays and Brewers would be doing it. But it chews up the bullpen and leaves the pitching staff constantly shorthanded. Maybe, maybe if a team had an entire 40 man roster’s worth of optionable healthy bulk inning pitchers and could constantly be shifting them in and out, it might work…until injuries popped up.
Kept thinking the Mariners would turn it around but starting to think they just suck. Cal played out of his mind last year. Naylor got paid and sucks now - that guy is weird as **** too. The bottom of their lineup is as bad as ours.
I know the reality of Yordan being traded is almost non-existent as the optics alone would be bad enough, but I don't think his trade value would ever be as high as it is right now. With the Astros not going anywhere this season and most likely the next without a major change, THAT major change could be Yordan. I absolutely feel the Astros could rake a another team for great prospects AND missing pieces for the OF and SP that could salvage a few years in this weak division. I'm sure they have entertained the thought and heard unsolicited offers for him so far, but another team would be stupid not to throw everything they had at him. With his injury issues, he may have another season or two at this level of play but I'm not even convinced he gets through this season without having a stint on the DL in August and/or early September. If the Astros plan to just rebuild then keep Yordan and trade other pieces. But if they want to compete with a soft reset then Yordan would be the most valuable piece to trade. Having a true starting pitcher and a big time OF added to this lineup could do wonders this year alone. Only way this happens is to set the bar up high and don't take anything less than a king's ransom.

All you need is replacing two regular relievers with 2 multi. We're using the premise the multi guys really are "semi starters". Injuries???.... it's better for a 3-4 guy to get injured than a 6 inning guy. Teams mostly won't employ it because starters want WINS.

There’s not a chance in hell Yordan is getting traded so might as well stop wasting your time considering it. The package it would take would be so substantial that small markets aren’t going to be a player. Outside of the Dodgers, none of the big market teams are loaded with top prospects. They obviously aren’t a fit because of Ohtani. It makes way more sense to sell off Pena, Paredes, Hader, Okert, and Brown than it does to trade Yordan.
My point is that. Selling off the other pieces brings us to rebuilding. Only way I see us being post season ready is through Yordan. I know it won't happen so it ends here- but mark me

You can rebuild very quickly by trading off the guys I’ve mentioned in addition to wisely spending in free agency. IMO you could be back in the playoffs in 2028 with a chance even for 2027 depending what you get back. Is Dana capable of doing that though? I don’t have the answer to that question. To put a Yordan trade into perspective, you’d need at least what the Nationals got for Soto. Abrams and Gore were both top 10 prospects before they graduated. Additionally, the Nationals got the #21 overall prospect at the time along with the #88 prospect, James Wood. They got fortunate that the Padres and AJ Preller were willing to go for it and were stocked with prospects.
Posters have suggested many times Lance should go to the bullpen. They didn't mean a one-inning regular reliever. I'm claiming it does NOT happen because starters want wins. Bullpen is NOT short anyone if guys are throwing multiple innings. You don't need each pitcher as often if they're giving more outs. Games are still 9 innings. You sure about that ??? VERLANDER It's silly to believe any player in any sport doesn't care about stats. Hader wants saves, Durant wants points, and Will Anderson wants sacks. Stats are part of players' incentives. I'm surprised you're refuting this. Besides that, you know managers leave pitchers in to qualify for the win. To expect players to say publicly "nah, 5 innings" is silly.
Starters only want wins cause they get paid for them. Stop paying for them, pay for scoreless innings. Teams get wins, pitchers do not.
Money and clout. Players want stats too. Specifically wins.... Verlander would take 3 earned, 5 innings and a WIN before he's taking 4 scoreless. .
Dana "may" be capable and it "appears" he is but that doesn't make him lucky, and even in FA it helps to have some luck or impeccable timing. Where things just align for you and a deal gets done and years later it's "the guy" BUT for whatever reason Dana can't seem to find us a feared and powerful OF bat that you can slot in 3-5 and push Walker and Altuve down. Handicaps aside, four years and he still can't get "the guy".
