He may be similar to FVV in build and defense, but he can get to the hoop and score (at least in college). If he can do that in the NBA, he should surpass FVV in a few years. That’s a big if.
Thornton is a lot more proven commodity than Nix. I’m interested to see if he can create quality looks for himself and others. If his quickness doesn’t hold him back, Thornton should be fine.
Proven at the college level...and he didn't prove enough to be a legitimate NBA prospect until after 4 years in college. Even after 4 years, he wasn't a first round talent. If you look at what he did in college, there's very little chance any of it translates to the NBA, which is why he wasn't highly touted. It's not even just quickness, he's also not fast, and he can't jump very high. He's perfect for low level leagues that don't have the physical freaks that the NBA does. He will probably do well in Summer League and the NBA G League after that.
It’s funny there is no summer league thread but this guy knows how to play winning basketball (at least at summer league level) Also completely outplayed Rockets legend and first round talent same-weight-but-taller Nix in his evergreen summer league presence
I know it's only SL, but I've seen enough to admit I was wrong. This guy will be at minimum, be a solid rotation player eventually.
JD Davison averaged 28 ppg in g-league. Not sure what you see that makes this guy such a steal. He appears slow and short….doesn’t have the rach they claimed and can’t play defense. Just another Clemons.
…..now that guy on the other team who lit it up against us the other day and almost brought them back to victory by making three after three after three looked quite impressive.
So hard to tell how what Bruce is doing is going to translate. But it definitely looks like he has a chance to do some things better than FVV, especially scoring around the basket and drawing fouls. On the other hand, I think FVV really developed a lot as a passer and playmaker after coming into the league, and I think Bruce would have to do the same to get to FVV's level as a floor general. There's also the possibility that he's just beating up on bad Summer League players and his production takes a massive dive against real NBA players. Hope that's not the case, but we'll see.
