How big of a sample size do you need? In the playoffs, he shot 55% 10 - 14 ft, 43% 15 - 29 ft, 38% 20 - 24 ft. His last 40 games he shot 27% from 3. We’re not talking about short bursts here - we’re talking about nearly half a season.

 

It kind of is though... how many shots are we even talking about?

The fact that you have to go down to 5 feet to get the result you want is telling as well.

How many of those were 10 feet or more? What was his fg% on shots over 10 feet?

When you go all the way down to 5 feet... and the majority of shots are those super close shots, it can skew the results.

Prime Westbrook was a monster at accumulating counting stats at the expense of greater team success. I would be disappointed if that's what Amen developed into.

It’s funny to me how posters will treat the playoffs as an end-all-be-all (“We suck because we lost!”) but refuse to acknowledge good aspects from it (“It was only 6 games.”)

His 2026 playoff shot chart from 0 - 24 ft is below. Again, no one is saying he’s a good shooter now - but this shot chart does look very different than past years. In fact, the percentages for the 26 shots he took from 10 - 24 feet are actually pretty good, and 4.3 shots a game from that distance is not insubstantial.

That's what really matters. Otherwise you might as well be a team that got beat in the playoffs saying the analytics actually said you won.
