Could be a camp battle. Reed was picked third so the org will want him to win out , but Thornton could make a case for himself

The only way Bruce is the back up off the bench is if FVV AND Smart miss the year.

Thornton won’t make opening day roster. Dude will be playing for RGV Vipers all year and most likely waived next year.

They'll run FVV and Reed together in a lot of looks with Reed as the SG.

Nah. We wouldn't have already ponied up $2 million for him to be in RGV.

Neither can crack JVU’s 8-man rotation

    Fred(35) | Amen(37) | Durant(37) | Jabari(30) | Sengun(31)
    Smart(28) | Tari(24) | Adams(18)

Who gets it and who deserves it are 2 different questions.

Reed is by far the better player, so he deserves it, but Ime has an IQ of 65 so anything is possible

I think Thornton will be good for Reed. I’m hoping Reed gets the bulk of the point guard minutes this season. I’m sure I will be disappointed by Ime again. But it’s on Reed to improve his handle.

Would not be surprised if Thornton has the better career when all is said and done.

Can’t answer the poll because Smart is the backup point, Reed is really backup 2.

Why does Reed get talked about like he's some fringe NBA guy?

Reed was sixth in NBA 6th man of the year voting last year. He was seventh in NBA Most Improved Player. He is established as one of the best non starters in the NBA, at age 21.

...if you think Ime is going to sub Reed's defense for Thornton's defense - then you clearly haven't been paying attention.

Also - Reed looked significantly better in Summer League his first year than Thornton does today and even his 2nd Summer League appearance showcases that Thornton and Reed are in entirely different classes as players. The only thing we learned with OP's post is they clearly don't watch or think at all before posting.

depends. If Sheppard improves defensive and offensive awareness then he plays. If Thornton is solid both ways especially if he gives the offense different looks then he at least gets some playing time in situations and matchups

He would lead many teams in scoring if they let him run. His trade value is VERY high rn. GS, Utah, Dallas, Grizz would all kill to have him.

Reed easily. The Rockets arent going to tank Reed's trade value just like with Jalen no matter how bad he played. He got benched at times but he always got his spot back. I imagine the same would hold true for Reed just from an asset perspective.

Also, I was actually thinking about this today but if Reed isnt playing the spacing could get really wicked this year. The Rockets are returning only 3 players who shot over 36% from three last year...Jabari, Reed, KD...and Jabari barely made it.

...Reed and KD the only 2 guys around 40%, and Reed is the only high volume guy and only one who shoots deep threes.

Holiday and Okogie are gone. They both shot really well last year. Smart is what he is. Fred is older, shot horrible when he last played and coming off a bad knee injury. Bogdan hasnt shot well in a few years.

Instead of Reed vs Thornton, if Thornton shoots well in the NBA, folks better hope for Reed AND Thornton because the outside shooting is currently looking spooky...even worse than last year...

Y'all act like FVV is going to come out without any lingering issues from having his knee explode. We also do not have a true SG. Next year's rotation will surprise a lot of people.

That’s why they picked up Smart and Thornton, Reed can’t run the point
