Just imagine if Rocket legend Kelvin Cato had been in the Malice at the Palace...

LOL! I've been referencing this contract all over the place recently... whenever someone goes off on Stone's lack of aggressiveness or relying on older players... just remember that 6 yr deal for a 25 yo Kelvin Cato! LOL!

I think Rasheed Wallace said the same thing in an interview.

True, but that doesn’t solve the problems of the Rockets.

Personally, I dont think we're as bad off as many complain...
Imo not having a pg last season is what killed us... KD is no facilitator, its not Amens skillset and Reed is a work in progress....
Just having at least a midlevel pg who can protect the ball, control the tempo and get it to the guys in their spots is essential.
Otherwise, u get a bunch of disjointed crap with guys playing out of position - as we saw... lol
U can have a 100K car but if u r missing 1 $5 spark plug - it aint working! lol
I was very disappointed that Stone didnt address the issue at the deadline last year...

but, to his credit... he hasnt saddled us with a bunch of negative long-term contracts and hasn't mortgaged the future for immediate gratification...

So weird this thread gets bumped the day after I watched Rasheed Wallace saying this in this podcast :

It's Sheed, so NSFW audio :

    Had to look that up.

Cato played 17 minutes for the entire 6-game Utah series that he’s talking about. Stat-line says no blocks. But sounds like he’s right about Dunleavy going to Cato early, bc Brian Grant and Sabonis both got 2 fouls in the 1st Q of game 1. So Cato likely got matched up with Malone with Rasheed out there.

But they lost Game 1, and Cato played 3 minutes the rest of the series.

Rasheed probably thought that though. He just never corrected it in his head later. Wonder how many times he told that story with Bonzi or another Blazer in the room thinking, “dude, why do you keep bringing up Cato as why we won that series.”

Probably whatever Sheed is lacing his weed with causing him to mis-remember. lol. Just from looking at the stats, it looks like Malone did have an "off" shooting/scoring series by his standards, though - for whatever reason.

Zach Randolph was drafted in 2021 - trade was in 1999.

The poo-poo platter we got from Portland for trading Pippen was the diarrhea icing on a terd cake. We didn't even get picks, which just blows my mind now. CD honestly should have lost his job then - we might have actually done something smart with our 2000 and 2001 picks. Collier was a wasted pick and no matter how talented Eddie Griffin was, trading all 3 of our first round picks in one of the deepest (though not most talented) drafts of this century for a headcase who'd punched two different teammates on two different teams was a massive mistake.

Imagine we had gotten Jermaine O'Neal in the trade , drafted Hedo instead of Collier in 2000 and then used the 2021 picks on any of Richard Jefferson, Zach Randolph, Gerald Wallace, Sam Dalembert, Jamaal Tinsley, Tony Parker, or even (another headcase but way more talented) Gilbert Arenas.

Not sure we would have gotten the #1 pick in 2002, but if we had, that's a super deep team with way more assets to successfully trade for McGrady without completely gutting the team.
