The First Amendment is part of the U.S. Constitution's Bill of Rights. It specifically prevents the government from establishing an official religion, interfering with religious exercise, censoring speech or the press, infringing on peaceful assembly, or denying the right to petition the government

 

That's what the current Republican platform is fighting against every single day. I have little faith this train will ever get back on track.

 

What recourse is there against a Department of Justice that behaves in this manner?

Federal Judge rebukes Trump and DOJ over IRS lawsuit in scathing decision,
and imposes professional penalties against lawyers representing Trump in a civil lawsuit
he brought against the IRS and harshly criticized the Justice Department for its handling of the case,
concluding that the suit was brought for an "improper purpose."​

U.S. District Judge Kathleen Williams referred one of Mr. Trump's lawyers, Alejandro Brito, to the Florida Bar for potential disciplinary action.
The judge also limited the ability of a second lawyer, Daniel Epstein, to practice in the Southern District of Florida.

Williams also directed a copy of her order to be mailed to the State Bar of New York and to the District of Columbia Bar, of which
acting Attorney General Todd Blanche and Associate Attorney General Stanley Woodward are members, respectively.
Blanche and Woodward signed documents relating to the settlement with Mr. Trump.

 

It amuses me to hear MAGA decry the rise of the democratic socialists like it isn't a direct response to their authoitarianism and deceptive implimentation of an extreme nativist and corporatist right wing agenda that most Americans don't support (and all the rampant overt corruption and double-dealing certainly doesn't help).

If they do manage to pass the SAVE act and "ensure Republicans never lose an election again", what effect exactly do you think that that's going to have on the left wing counter-radicalization of the youth, and their comitment to addresing their grievences through (rigged) peaceful political processes.

It's like they WANT a communist revolution eventually in America. This administration couldn't possibly be doing much more to ensure one eventually if they tried.

See the lead up to every communist revolution in world history, if you really don't see where this is heading.

Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. They've spent the last two years planting the seed for that reaction and yet they're still shocked and confused when that seed ineviatably sprouts. I kind of love reading online comments on conservative stories wringing hands about the rise socialism in the last two years. I've seen a bunch lately. People blaming women's lib in the 1960s or a liberal cabal of Marxist college professors . Maybe look in the mirror. They are completely blind to their own culpability.

The harder they continue to push for their right wing purification campaign, the more they're going to be confused about where all these radicalised socialists keep coming from.

Marco Rubio launches sweeping campaign to 'dismantle' ICC 'threat to US sovereignty'

The Trump administration said it would pressure other countries to withdraw from the court, marking a sharp escalation in the US effort to isolate the Hague-based institution.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has launched a sweeping campaign to undermine the International Criminal Court that could include further sanctions and other measures.

In a video posted on X and a lengthy op-ed in the Wall Street Journal, Rubio vowed to "dismantle" the court, claiming it posed "an intolerable threat to US sovereignty."

"The ICC and its friends are waging a war against our country, not with bullets or missiles, but with statutes, compacts and the force of so-called international law," Rubio said in the video.

Rubio added that the ICC "threatens every aspect of our political and legal system," and that it has moved from being a "narrow backstop" charged with prosecuting "only the gravest offenses...when a nation's courts were unable."

I'm not sure if you've noticed, but a bunch of us have been saying Trump is 100% the reaction to a black man getting elected president for years and years. It is obvious and apparent to me and many others.
