Texas is being hard carried by its blue cities Houston, Dallas, and Austin

without those 3, TX is a literal sh*t hole no better than Alabama, Oklahoma, or any other flyover state

all those people who boast about leaving California to go to TX, they’re not settling down in places like Lubbock, Harlingen, etc

all the right wing pundits live in blue cities and vacation in blue states

education, healthcare, crime, life expectancy…all better in blue states

A little surprised to see Utah in there, beautiful place, very outdoorsy and has strong West Coast influences even though it's very conservative. It's actually the #1 best place to live on this list, but then again, Florida is #6 so something is going on: https://www.usnews.com/news/best-states/rankings and this one has Utah at #8 https://wallethub.com/edu/best-states-to-live-in/62617

I don't think those northern gulf coast deep south states will ever change. Kids are indoctrinated in racism and other ignorance at an early age. You wouldn't believe some of the **** a friend of mine from Alabama told me that his grandmother told him.

Regardless, I need to GTFO Texas. I love it here, but it's obviously going downhill. I'd prefer a warmer state with a low cost of living, good healthcare, safety and education but I know that's impossible. Massachusetts is probably the best place for health/safety/education but it's cold af and expensive. Colorado might be my second or third choice. My wife wants to move to Oregon.

Yeah that ranking is complete garbage.

Utah is one of the highest quality of life states in America. Ranking WV, New Mexico, Mississippi, Alabama, Oklahoma and Arkansas over Utah, Texas, Indiana, Georgia is beyond outrageous, whoever created that formula should feel ashamed.

This is nothing to share or @ people over it will do a disservice to whatever point you want to make.

    Raleigh NC and Charlottesville VA

Oregon will not be low cost of living, between the housing and taxes expect to take a sizeable step back. Corvallis and Bend are really nice, Bend is rather cold, Corvallis is temperate but has tons of rain for 5+ months in winter.

I'm living in Fort Collins right now, it's fantastic, the combination of weather, amenities, nature, low crime, high pay, education system, health care, clean/new/well maintained infrastructure is almost un-matchable. Still aiming to move out of the country, but if I had to stay, it would be here or one of the other places I named.

People don't live across an entire state, but within a small geographic region of it. Even the best state rankings are still quite useless.

You know your post and reference material is absolute garbage if the list doesn't at least include Florida

NC and VA are pretty low on my list. If I'm moving to the East Coast it's New England and **** that winter.

Colorado is strong for me for a lot of reasons. It's beautiful, tons of outdoorsy things to do in all seasons, not super humid, fairly progressive and the 'conservatives' there are more libertarian than southern-friend republicans from what I've seen. My cousin just moved to Colorado Springs, too, so I have a small family connection. Moving away from the coast would be tough, though.

Raleigh and Charlottesville are really nice places to live without the harsh winter, better summers than TX, more affordable than Oregon/NE. The quality of life statistics for those cities/counties are about as good as any place in the country. Recommended them because you mentioned weather/affordability.

If you want a blue governed state and good nature access, specifically check out Charlottesville, you may be surprised at the amount of boxes it ticks. I liked Crozet, specifically, because I prefer smaller more rural areas a short drive to solid amenities.

Thanks! Upside to Charlottesville is close to my wife's cousin who I really get along with is in the area. It's also relatively close to DC (but not too close) where I do some business and there are some good clubs and music venues. It's also about 4 hours from some WV kinfolk my wife has. Beautiful state, not that many teeth.

This isn't a surprise at all.

Democratic states have problems as well - but the absolute states I have lived and spent a lot of time in have been non-competitive Republican states, where anyone with the "R" next to their name wins without question.

I grew up in Texas and it took moving away and living outside the USA and inside the USA in states that were competitive to realize just how poorly ran states like Texas are. Indiana and Tennessee are garbage states as well.... they have parts about them that are nice, but the state are overall just a dumpster fire.

The list says more about methodology than anything else. GA ranks above most of the rest of the South in every category but is 5th worst? Seems like the heartbeat bill would have to be the major drag on GA's score.
