Confirmed Stone loves the bowling ball physique. Reed put on 10 lbs. of “good weight”, which to Stone means in his ass.

Jesus christ, haters. Do you think we don't know it's just summer league? Do you think we don't know that's not NBA level competition out there? Do you think we don't know Bruce Thornton is a second round pick that isn't likely to be a major contributor?

It's still a lot of fun to watch him drop 27 and dominate the competition. It was really fun. Can we just have some fun enjoying basketball without you guys ******** all over it? Do you guys even try to enjoy basketball anymore? How does all of this negativity not have you ******** blood from all of the ulcers it causes?

Wait. Is that why you guys can't enjoy anything? You're ******** blood, aren't you? Yeah. That's uncomfortable. I'd be mad too.

It's official, Bruce Thornton is the next Josh Christopher. He has been given the blessing of Williamson.

just speaking for myself, I’m happy we drafted him and I think he certainly can handle the ball and shoot. So I’m happy we’ve got a young prospect to root for. I think the athletic limitations are glaring and he can’t separate. But as others have pointed out, even if he’s a career backup it’s a nice pickup at #31. I think the draft last yr was deeper in the late 1st/early 2nd rounds.

Im still gonna have to make fun of Stone and the org though. If folks wanna say that’s hating whatever. I mean, Daishen Nix is on the team, making Thornton look like Labaron Philon ;)

He had a better debut than Reed Sheppard, the guy you personally anointed the Rockets future guard lol

Lol so the guy that is older than Reed Sheppard is now scored more in a meaningless summer league game with no first round picks involved at all than Reed Sheppard did at as a teenager?

    Wow.

Also, it's not like Reed did terribly bad, he averaged 20/5/3 as a teen in summer league.

Or reaching for steals or not looking at his assignment allowing them to cut to the paint or get a DHO untouched to the paint.

Who said he was Brunson? Stone also drafted Sheppard? Was that an awful move?

You're projected Reed was better than our starting pg after the same meaningless preseason game as well. If Thornton looked like Reed Sheppard with the same stat line you'd be celebrating him being a superstar already lol. But okay

More goes into projections than just one Summer League game.

When comparing 19 year old Reed Shepard and soon to be 23 year old Bruce Thornton you have to factor in skillset and physical gifts.

Thornton wasn't even an NBA prospect until busts senior year due to his short stature and his complete lack of NBA athleticism.

Reed Sheppard at 19 was a top pick in the draft.

That's not to say Thornton has nothing going for him, I like his shooting ability, I like his court vision, and I really like his effort and motor.... but I just don't think he'll be able to defend ANYONE at the NBA level due to his complete lack of agility and speed.

I think we'll see him get blown by and forced to foul a lot... something we're already seeing when he faces Summer League scrubs.

I think if he wants to suck around he needs to lose some weight and get quicker.... but in doing so he'll need to change how he plays the game because most of what he did in college was strength based

I hope he beats there odds, but there's a lot of really good players who simply aren't NBA caliber and right now that's the most likely outcome for Bruce.

I haven't caught any of Thornton games. How has he honestly looked to those who have watched. I saw some highlights but those dont say much.

It’s summer league, so it’s hard to tell very much. But, he has shown some ability to handle the ball and he looks confident. Because of his size and lack of explosiveness you have to wonder what will happen against NBA talent.

I’m happy that he hasn’t looked overwhelmed or scared and I’m looking forward to see what he can do this fall. With the addition of Smart and with Fred returning, I see Thornton probably playing a lot of games with the Vipers and getting some garbage minutes with the Rockets. Beyond next year who knows.

He looks slow. He has a good shot, plays hard, and has pretty good court vision. His defense has been really bad. Maybe in time he can move his feet on defense, but right now guys in summer league are blowing by him. He is strong and may be able to use that to get off his shot in the lane, but it is suspect. I don’t think he gets anything more than junk minutes if he makes the team. He will probably spend a lot of time in RGV.
