If everything broke right. Whose a current player u would comp him to? I like him too although I never watched him play. Just read some scouting reports.
https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id...t-analysis-winners-losers-day-1-preview-day-2 Kiley McDaniel (ESPN prospect guy) seems to have really liked Houston’s first 2 picks. https://www.mlb.com/astros/news/astros-2026-draft-picks?t=mlb-draft-coverage Pendino said the same thing about every pick (“we were really surprised he was available”). I think Hughes, Radel, and Mendes could all be in AA by August 2027 and in the majors by July 2028. Keon Johnson only struck out 3 times his entire senior year of HS. After sleeping on it, I am more positive on this class so far. I still hope there’s room for one more significant (top 100 draft talent) overslot pick. But Houston came away with 5 of the top 120 talents in the draft imho, 2 very likely (relative to other pitching prospects) big league starting pitchers, a very likely quality big league bat, and 2 good HS prospects they can mold. If they can coax more power out of Johnson he will be a big league regular, and Peterson is a lot like Xavier Neyens.
Are there any of these guys they will have trouble signing? I think Peterson was one that was mentioned somewhere it would take a lot to get him.
No. The Astros would have an agreement in place for any of the 1-10 round picks, before selecting them. Exceptions would be rare and make the rule.
The Astros start off Day 2 with... Round 5, Pick 153: Gavin Eddy, RHP, UC-Berkeley 6-5, 225 righty with a low-90s fastball and a power slider with a gyro shape. Two-pitch guy, maybe they'll try to see if he can throw harder as a pro
