I wouldn’t say he “dominated”, but it was definitely an overall good showing. One thing to flag is that while he was able to drive to the rim, it looked like he was having a harder time getting that floater/tear drop to fall. I do think there will be an adjustment playing against longer opponents. But the handle looked good. Obviously he can shoot. I saw him making some good decisions passing the ball. I didn’t see him flash on defense, but I’ll be following that more closely next time he plays. Definitely one of the slower guard prospects I’ve seen, but also one of the strongest. A solid performance but I need to see more to buy in. One thing I’ve learned over the yrs…summer league doesn’t really mean anything. But u definitely would rather play well than not.
Solid performance. Anyone taking too much or critiquing too much are missing the forest for the trees.
How come other players didnt murder the young kids? Crawford 24, Newton 25, Nix 23 Thornton and Copeland 22
I take it as a sign Thornton should be able to contribute off the bench immediately since his scoring efficiency seems to translate from college unlike say Reed or Jabari whose shot dropped massively from college to SL.
I mean you still have to be an nba talent? If you put me in i wouldn’t dominate either and i’m well over 23
Tough crowd in here. I wouldn't expect Ainge, Doc, or Agent Zero but the kid can shoot. That alone is a plus my opinion.
He is what was on the tape from Ohio State. Safe ballhandler in the halfcourt, uses his strength well on both ends, and makes shots, especially tough contested mid range shots. He is a very reliable and responsible player. Can he create separation on the ball? Not at all. Can he play in transition? No. Can he keep with quick guards defensively? No. Does he have much passing / playmaking range? No. But he can still be a useful NBA player without those things. Just don't expect some kind of Jalen Brunson star upside. Bruce Thornton does not have a bag. He is not that kind of basketball player.
Its sad some posters cant post a generic "hey pur draft pick did pretty well in a SL game" without trying to insult other fans in the process. It seems to me some fans are less about rooting for the Rockets and more about rooting for some form of I-told-you-so that I typically see from people my kids age.
So its not just his age he is dominating being an NBA talent as a 2nd round is already a steal since most of these guys dont even get an extension.
Being able to hit shots at all 3 levels including tough contested mid range shots means he does have a bag. He doesnt have star upside but he does have a decent bag that allows him to score efficiently in all areas of the court. Not having a bag is like Jabari who can only open 3s or pull up at mid range using his height and cant dribble or Amen who is useless outside the restricted area.
Complete assassin. Green over Mobley/Barnes. Sheppard over Castle. Josh Christopher, Garuba, Tyty. Gives away all our seconds for dumb reasons. Assassinates our future via draft
Maybe he can turn out to be our next AB - he also had a great summer league (even won the league’s mvp IIRC), and drafted in a similar spot (26 vs. 31, not much of a difference). AB is maybe not a pg hall of fame or anything, but he was a legitimate starting pg.
