Clippers Kawhi Leonard TRADED to Toronto Raptors FOR Brandon Ingram, Gradey Dick, 2 FRP, 2 SRP

Kawhi thought he was slick just gonna slide out the country.

Still think the trade happens and the punishment, if any, will just be a slap on the wrist. They'll probably make Kawhi plant some maple trees in Canada. Ballmer will be fined pocket change money for him and Clippers lose a 2nd round draft pick or two.

 

Annoying that Raptors AGAIN will be the victim

 

I think Kawhi is going to get off because his contract has less than 12 months to run.

Even if they did void it, he would be able to file a NBPA grievance and probably be able to play on his contract while the situation is resolved, not sure what the timeline is there but it would be months, leaving even less time on the contract to void.

My assumption was that the Raptors/Clippers knew or assumed this as well, but I guess not?

 

Either this is for show or it’s on purpose to get Balmer off but punish Kawhi and the Raptors.

 

Even if Kawhi is able to stall with a grievance, the Raptors wanted the Bird rights off that contract. I gotta think the Raptors thought the NBA would not void a contract if he was on their team. They probably see themselves as the victim. The Raptors probably wanted a ruling from Silver before executing the trade which is what they got today, sort of.

That said, 2 unprotected FRPs and a FRP swap seems a lot considering Kawhi gets hurt a lot. Silver may be saving the Raptors from themselves.

If I had to guess the penalty is going to fall on Leonard partially. Him not playing would be the only tangible was for it to impact the raptors or any team he is traded too.
