Say what you will, I think it's cool that we very well may end up locking up five of the six blue chip prospects we drafted during our three-year tanking phase, and the sixth we extended and traded for a star that we extended. Post Durant, our starting lineup could legitimately be five guys we drafted: Sheppard / Amen / Eason / Smith / Sengun.

I think it could be a terrific starting five, depending on development.

Since it wasn’t official, I would’ve rescinded the offer.

I have been advocating to trade Sengun. I am now thinking it is best to keep Alpi/Tari/Reed/Amen/Jabari together. They are all young and will be notably better 2-3 years from now when they are still under contracts. I expect that both Amen and Reed will end up signing team friendly deals as well.

The NY Knicks model is Brunson (who is not a franchise guy per se) and then a bunch of quality where someone can be the man each night and have it be fine if Brunson is off. We look to be more likely to hit that then wait on a Cooper Flagg.

I like the signing of Smart, but I do with it would have been something longer term on a younger player. But if we are taking a shot at it this year, cool and we can get our core more experience.

A trade to supplement our future....

FVV/Capela/2027 worst of the two picks/2029 worst of the two picks/2031 FRP top 5 protected.

    Murphy/Bey. Bey re-signs a 3 year 33 million dollar extension.

    Sengun/Smith/Adams
    Smith/Eason
    Durant/Bey/Bogdanovic
    Murphy/Reed
    Amen/Smart

I'm honestly shocked they were able to get Tari for $14 mil starting. Seems like so many players are getting ridiculously overpayed. This one was done right.

If they all met or exceeded their draft spot potential you could have a Championship team on your hand. Now if only they could find a Championship level coach.

On franchise guys, they are typically worth well over the max such that the team gets their talent and money to spend that savings on other players. While Brunson isn't one of the three best guys in the league, him taking less money helped the Knicks a lot.

Did you not see how horrible he played the last 2 months of the season? If that's the Tari we wind up with for the majority of the next 5 years, it'll look like one of the worst contracts in the league.

For the last couple weeks I’ve been pretty passionate about the need to trade Sengun to make the team fit around Thompson. it is unfortunate to have to advocate for that because, to a certain degree I think that better coaching could offset the problem. we might get lucky and it offset itself if both of them make a decent jump forward. I actually think that they both will improve a good amount overtime. I just don’t know if that’s gonna be enough for this year or the “Durant/FVV/Ime/Stone Two year world tour”.

anyway, I guess that the point is is that I don’t really want to trade him now I just want to build on the core of young players that we have signed at reasonable rates. I believe both Thompson and Shepherd will likely sign similar contracts when they get the opportunity. meaning that the contract is very close to their value, but that they take a little bit off. Smith/Sengun/Tari are all on very good deals and the extra space that that provides will add up. Those guys have definitely been professionals for a while now, but their age ages, they are still young and they will get better.

    Sengun
    Smith
    Eason
    Amen/Thornton
    Reed

that will not be the core six in three years. Things will change that, we can’t predict. but I would be very interested to see how that would function in 28/29.
