It's so ironic how the statements Trump made about Iran sound just like someone talking about him.

Has anyone here actually done business with Muslims in the Middle East? I have. How Trump describes them is spot on. They are dirty players -- dishonest, and do not stick to an agreement. They are ALWAYS looking for a way to screw you. And they'll constantly look for little openings to take an inch to test whether you react. They think they are slick (they are not, they are dumb) and in a sick way, they believe they are justified by their God for being dishonest with non-Muslims. They are dishonest all day long and corrupt and then when 5pm rolls around, they'll pull out their prayer rug and do a performative religious display -- literally seconds after lying to a group of people for the 20th time that day. The hypocrisy is just over the top.

We are very fortunate we have a President who does not trust these people -- because they take advantage of people who give them trust. The only way to deal with these people is harshly and in a way that severely punishes any breaking of an agreement - no matter how small.

one of the many problems is that trump keeps issuing these threats or deadlines and never following through. why should anyone believe anything he says? how many times has he threatened to destroy iran now? how many "two week" deadlines has he issued and never followed through on, not just in iran but in ukraine as well. putin got multiple "two week" deadlines and he ignored them all and nothing happened.

he is just an 80 year old child throwing temper tantrums. today he called to halt all trade with spain and spains response was just a big shrug. this was the second time he had done that. after the first time nothing changed. spain issued a statement saying its "business as usual". nobody takes him seriously.

he revels in being a chaos agent/disrupter/spreader of conflict. its who he has always been. one of the many reasons he is totally unfit for any kind of leadership role.

Agreed. It sounded like an empty bluff when he said it. He still thinks Iran is desperate for a peace deal and that his threats to walk away will make them more eager to give concessions. Idk what's really go on, but I feel like Iran isn't interested in a peace deal at all, they are ready to persevere through the bombings, and that their real object is to make this drag on all the way to the midterms in the hopes that the bother for American voters will feed the blue wave and take away Republicans' congressional majority and hamstring Trump. Then they will negotiate a peace deal with a lame duck Trump from a stronger position. If I'm right about that (a big if), Trump's negotiation strategy is exactly the wrong one.

No -- you don't rise to the top of the NY real estate world, the entertainment world, or the political world if you are not good for your word. This is an underlying baseline requirement for business in the Western world. There's only two places where I've seen businessmen not adhere to this "a deal is a deal" mentality -- and that's the Middle East and Russia. There "a deal" only means a deal in that moment, and as soon as the counterparty sees any type of leverage change, then the deal changes. You cannot survive that way in the Western world -- people just won't do business with you. You might hate Trump, but it's true that he's done a lot of business deals with a lot of people across many fields over the last 50 years. He's got a huge amount of negotiating experience -- and he's a very savvy dealer. The odds of him getting played are very low -- because he's been on guard for it his entire career. I've never worked with Trump but worked with people with similar levels of success and they are all this way. They have a sixth sense for people trying to take advantage of them... and this is what Trump smells with the Iranians.
