they also didnt get beat by 3 goals with a belgium that has seen better days. 4 wins 1 loss with a +8 goal differential. they had a really nice run and are going to end up in the top 10 in the rankings. doesnt mean much but its something

FIFA rankings don’t mean anything. Norways ranked like 20th and they can beat USA without Haaland.

it does just not right now since we're long ways from the next world cup draw. still, its nice to say you ended up being a top 10 nation in the world cup.

Terrible effort and they deserved to lose. If the goalie hadn't blundered, it might have at least been close into the final seconds.

Argentina and Norway are my favorite remaining teams. I don't think anyone can beat France, but you gotta play the games.

It turns out Balogun playing didn't matter at all and oh look at that, now Belgium can say they beat us at our best instead of having people whine about "Oh if Balogun had played..."

Probably for the better to get beat like this, USA is getting more talented in this sport but just not nearly enough.

Pulisic is the most talented player we've produced so far and lets be honest you're taking countless other players in front of him.

They were good enough to beat them but that was a completely flat performance. Especially on the back line. Basically went about as bad as you could have imagined.

    Defense lost the game.
2 goals back to back on sleepy defense.
2 goals as a result of absolute stupidity.

Well that f*cking sucked. I can live with losing…but not like that. Belgium might not be way the once were but they’re still a very good side. I honestly don’t know what else to say about that performance other than it was embarrassing.
And after the nonsense of the last 24 hours, totally deserved. trump definitely cursed us.

I really hope Pochettino stays on and starts scouting some dual-national defenders in Germany. Doesn't that sound better than away games at Hull City?

At least Trump stayed away from Madison Square Garden after that infamous food stop.

This was to be expected, easiest 6x bet return that I have ever made (bet on Belgium to win by 2+ goals).

USA is an average team, and as hosts they were handed an easy group and first knockout match. Belgium is a clear step above, even though they are nothing special, Spain will dominate them in the following round.

This is the maximum that USA could have achieved, they are missing a quality holding midfielder / playmaker, centrebacks (Tim Ream cannot play in a serious squad), fullback, goalkeeper, if they are to make the next step.

Infantino is a disgrace and Trump is a joke.

We could also focus on keeping our 1st generation Mexican immigrant players. We lost two to Mexico who were raised and trained in the US, but they bolted to play for Mexico.

    I wonder why

The harsh reality is that this was probably the best opportunity the U.S. will have for a long time. Home field advantage is massive, and they were automatically qualified for the World Cup, giving them a favorable path from the start. If this had been a traditional 32 team World Cup with normal qualifying, I'm not convinced the U.S. would have even made it. They need more top level players competing in the world's best leagues if they want to consistently compete with the elite national teams.
