Never-ending holiday pomp fatigue is real but the 4th was my favorite holiday as a kid and still resonates with me today. 4th of July, Thanksgiving and Christmas. As for politicizing the 4th, meh. I didn’t see any overt bullshit this year on Saturday.
Bro, Being the person who does scheduling and payroll for my staff, I can truly say holidays suck. Per my staff's union, they get every other holiday off. They always b**** when it's their day off on Juneteenth, because they have to work Memorial Day and 4th of July. Also, it's a full paid day off for one of my unions and a floater for the other. Plus, the payroll rules are insane. I have two different unions working in my kitchen. NYSUT, and 1199 SEIU. They each have different pay rules for the day. Took me three and a half hours to do payroll this morning for 53 staff members.
The WOKE crowd LOVES America, they are just here trying to fix it for the ****ING MORONS trying to destroy the constitution. DD
Happy independence day! Was too busy celebrating to post. Though honestly it seemed like a pretty regular 7/4 in Houston -- looked at what events were going on and was dissuaded by a combination of heat and parking nightmares. Wanted to celebrate despite Trump harshing our vibe, but just bbqed with family and friends. Which is great.
I sat on a hill in the back of a mule and watched the fireworks going off over the lake while watching WC soccer. It was everything I wanted.
Beach at night in Galveston, playing in the surf with the kids, a few drinks and watching the fireworks several blocks away from the main crowd. Good times.
I can go any time, my house there is seven blocks from the beach and about 1/3 a mile from The Strand. It's a little dangerous.
I think everyone supports the 4th as a holiday, but I'm sure my comment was something Trump said, likely about Juneteenth. Only thing I hate about Juneteenth, is it is too close to Memorial Day and Independence Day. Meanwhile there are no Federal Holidays between Presidents Day & Memorial Day.
I used to prefer bonfires and cookouts on the Bolivar peninsula. That ferry ride was always a chill good time, as I remember it.
