An Air Force major was arrested in uniform on the steps of the Capitol after he called for the impeachment of President Donald Trump.

U.S. Capitol Police arrested Jason Watson, an active-duty service member, on Wednesday afternoon following remarks at a news conference where he said Trump and Vice President JD Vance should be removed from office.

The event was organized by the Removal Coalition, a group that lobbies members of Congress to impeach Trump, and attended by Rep. Al Green, D-Texas, who has repeatedly introduced articles of impeachment against Trump.

“I’m here with him because Rep. Green is the only member of Congress that has demonstrated the courage and conviction to ... force a vote on articles of impeachment,” Watson said at the event. “If Congress followed his example, we could remove the entire Trump administration, but Congress remains unconvinced of the urgency and necessity for them to honor their oaths, so we must persuade them with our unrelenting, uncompromising civil resistance.”

Watson said he is not a Democrat and does not share policy positions with Green, who lost his re-election bid this year. Green’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Watson’s arrest.

Watson’s criticism of Trump and Vance focused on the administration’s actions in Venezuela and Iran, calling them “an unconstitutional usurpation of Congress’ authority and a violation of the War Powers Clause.”

“These violations resulted in the deaths of 13 service members and injuries of hundreds more,” he said, referring to the number of U.S. military deaths tied to the Iran war. “For this, the president and vice president must be impeached, convicted and removed.”

Watson also called the administration’s immigration policies and tactics unconstitutional.

Watson was arrested on charges of “Crowding, Obstructing, and Incommoding.”

 

I respect the guy for standing up what he believes in. Though I hope he has a backup plan and knew exactly what he's risking by making that statement while being in active duty and in uniform.

He could be jailed, get dishonorably discharged, and lose his pension and access to VA.

It's wild how full of false equivalencies his tweet is. "The people who hate Israel end up hating America." Who are those people?

And, the "woke right" is a pejorative term applied to any right-leaning person who dares to question the American loyalty to Israel. One example is Tucker or MTG questioning how the U.S. support for Israel is America First. Those loons are now considered part of the woke right.

 

Well, it's not just AIPAC money. SCOTUS opened the floodgates for dark money to buy American elections. At least AIPAC money is trackable. We have a real problem with money in elections that needs fixing posthaste, but I'm not optimistic.

 

Money is free speech, in the dark. SCOTUS has ruled that anonymous political spending is protected: donors to "dark money" groups can influence elections without ever being named.

But when ordinary individuals use that same anonymity to speak, instead of spend, the current administration treats it differently. Anonymity stops being a protection and becomes a "safety" problem to trace and shut down. See the federal government going after anonymous individuals speaking up against ICE online as an early example of that double standard. Anonymous money is fine. Anonymous speech is not.

And I wouldn't be surprised if this Court, if the question ever reached it, ruled against individual anonymity too.

 

This is a huge problem. The voice of the majority of Americans should come first. It's gotten so disgusting with all the Super PACS and crap that pour money into the candidates they want pushed through. I wish every single citizen had an equal chance to compete against big money and the top 1% tipping the scales. If no individual or business could donate more than $5,000 it would change everything for the good in my eyes. It will never happen though, because greed and big money will always keep politicians from changing it. We need more honest, smart, hard working educated middle class Americans in our administration and politics. We have too many crooked sleazy lawyers, billionaires, folks raised on silver spoons, and incompetent, lying, butt kissing loyalists being supported by big money donors into politics.

 

The people who are aware that Israel is nothing but a drag on America. At least the other Middle Eastern countries provide us oil.
