Was Tank Girl published by DC? This is what this iteration of SG seems like

I googled it, Tank Girl started in a British magazine that publishes new authors, but has been published all over the place. At various times it has been published by Darkhorse Comics and Vertigo, wich are both owned by DC. But she isn't a DC property.

Tank Girl was kind of manic and irreverant and liked to stir up **** and screw with mean people for the sake of it.

    Spoiler about Supergirl's character -
This version of Supergirl (at least as she appears in the comic) appears to basically be clinically depressed, and she self medicates with alcohol but she is also governed by an intense sense of right and wrong that eventually causes bad people to piss her off so intensely that it drags her out of her near perpetual funk.

Her makeup in the comic is more ike beat up, run down, old Wolverine from the "Logan" film, than Tank Girl.

    Spoiler about the plot -
The whole plot of the comic (which I've heard is very closely adhered to by the film) is basically about saving Krypto, by chasing down the bad guy (Krim of the Yellow Hills) who poisons him when Supergirl is stumbling home at the end of a drinking binge. (She needs a sample of the poison so a healer can make an antidote.) Krim then flees in Supergirl's space ship and joins up with a group that pilages and murders planets for fun and profit - like the Reavers from Guardians of The Galaxy, but without any sort of moral code or restraint and no soft hearted Yondu - more like real pirates, less of the comic relief.

Also, Superhorse makes an appearance in the comic. Wonder if they're brave enough to bring him to live action.

Finally, Lobo doesn't appear in the comic at all, so they're shoehorning him in specifically to introduce him for the DCU.

She looks like the Feral Kid from Mad Max.

If this Supergirl movie is what it takes to launch Jason Momoa as Lobo, we have something to look forward to in a couple of years.

Paramount and David Ellison will decide.

So this is a huge flop. I’m a little surprised it whiffed -so- hard; I wouldn’t have been shocked if it ended with a mediocre run and barely broke even but it’s headed for a total of around 150m worldwide and a 150m+ loss for WB.

I think this reinforces what we’re seeing for audience appetites. People aren’t storming out to see big budget popcorn movies anymore just because. They want more cerebral and original fare, not just explosions. And the economy sucks, people are pinching pennys hard and there are more entertainment options now than ever before.

Maybe DC should have done a Power Girl movie instead ...

This might have brought a few more folks to the movies.

Just saying ... never underestimate the power of the boob window.

What did everyone expect from the dc side of things? They haven't gotten anything right except for Batman. No one was gonna go out to watch this on its opening day except die hard dc fans. Supergirl has no appeal to the mass audience. Another swing and miss. No surprise.

Why risk making Supergirl the second DCU movie after Superman? Can they really afford to make another Kryptonian a foundational character in their new universe? Has this been asked to James Gunn?

DC's roster of characters isn't as deep as Marvel's, but they had some options. They could have featured a villian for the second movie.

I don't know if the movie's any good, or if I'm going to love alcoholic Supergirl, but I've always loved that song as sung by Jimmy Ruffin. Maybe I'll buy the bluray when it comes out or something.

At one point DC and Marvel were pretty even on non-geek household recognizable names. DC had Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman and Marvel had Spider-Man, Hulk and Captain America.

Marvel just pumped out quality movies for a decade through Endgame that people wanted to see. The occasional mid movie like Thor 2 or Captain Marvel were carried by the overall wave of great quality.
