The offer has been one #1 um protected. Rockets can probably get another #1 from Detroit because they are fairly desperate. Rockets haven’t been interested in that and unless KD asks out - I don’t see that changing.

but ironically if he does ask out it’s gonna hurt our leverage and undermine the return we get. I’d rather proactively and quietly work with him to get something done. I’d rather not take the risk of waiting until Feb.

The truth is Stone has major status quo bias. Our FO is averse to transactions that leave them exposed. It's rational, within their own narrow incentives. But obviously bad for the fan experience and long term title chances.

Since 2021, we have made very very few trades involving meaningful players (as opposed to salary dumps or draft pick maneuvering). Only two basically, in half a decade.

So as much as a KD trade seems obvious to all, IMO the bar for the FO to do any significant trade is super high.

Absent a desperate offer being presented to them -- something like 3 unprotected firsts; or a young starter-level player they really like, plus picks -- I just don't think they do the trade.

I think most likely the FO get reassigned or layered next summer never having taken a big risk, but never having "lost" a trade badly, and with their player relationships intact.

You want two .200 shooters playing together .... on the perimeter!?

We saw how bad it was with Amen and Sengun, one in the paint and one outside, that was bad enough .... having those two outside would be a total disfunction on a whole new level.

    To Pistons
    KD and Capela and Missi

    To Pels
    Sengun and FVV and Sasser

    To Rockets
Duren and Robinson and Murphy and DJMurray

This assumes Duren has irreconcilable differences with Detroit and wants out. They take back center by committee, commit no picks to get KD.

Pels are a mess anyway - why not take an all-star big and try and build around him?? Good return for Murphy and a bad contract - FVV is cheaper than Murray and can mentor Fears and Sasser.

Rockets change tack offensively without losing rebounding, and gain some rim protection.

They would have to be your forwards, and I think you'd need skilled guards and a floor spreading five for it to maybe work. I have a morbid curiosity about it, but I really don't think it would work.

How about Cam Johnson and a re-signed Peyton Watson? I'm not sure the Nuggets would go for it.

So many difference maker players have been moved or are available and doesn’t seem like the rockets are trying. Trying to trade Peyton Washington for a pick into the TPE would b amazing

Detroit has been asking about him since the Gianni’s talks had heated up. I posted about it like a week or two ago. Detroit has reached out about several teams about offensive upgrades to put next to Cade.

If there is a 3-way trade that sends Durant to Detroit and Trey III to us that costs 2 frp from us and Stone turns that down, Rocket fans should boycott the team. Of course, all this could be bs. Without a third team in the mix, Detroit has virtually nothing player wise (that they would give up) to make a trade of Durant to them worthwhile in the FO’s eyes. I’d take a bag of chips for him, just to get this cancer off the team, but that’s just me.

I’m wondering if the moves they have already made for shooters has dampened their interest? If not, Stone needs to get this done, before some other team takes advantage. They may also be waiting for the Duren situation to be taken care of. I’m not a huge Duren fan, but I could get behind a sign and trade including KD going back with draft picks for Duren. Then trade Sengun for an athletic 3 shooting sg and picks. Go back to the original young, long, and fast plan.

If there was going to be a KD to Detroit trade, it would most likely happen today before Detroit’s moratorium transactions are made official.

The Isaiah Stewart and Marcus Sasser deals could be folded together to leave a incoming contract gap that could be filled up with a big contract, giving the other team a $20M+ trade exception as part of the deal.

That value disappears after those trades are finalized, and if they want to trade for a big contract (KD, Kyrie, Trey Murphy, whoever), the other team has to take back both Caris LeVert and Duncan Robinson’s bad money, which makes it harder to get a deal done and would cost Detroit another asset.

    They aren’t trading Dickerson :D

    CF is wishcasting/dreamcasting again.

    Dickerson staying
    Gooner staying
    Fred staying
    Stonedoka not getting fired
Rockets not trading into top 5/10
    Rockets not “soft resetting”
CF didn’t get anything they wanted. Maybe next year.

Guessing you posted something similar about Green and Brooks a couple of seasons ago.
