Hmmm...I was completely against trying it as I would be with any store bought potato salad. But I might try it out after this post. In trying to put it down you actually made it sound really good. Too thick, too creamy, too rich, too buttery...too delicious. Reminds me of when people describe thai/Indian food as too spicy or tacos/burgers as too greasy.
To each their own, and I encourage you to try it for yourself, but it really was too much for me. Another thing to consider is that I typically buy potato salad to snack on - I grab the container and a spoon and just go to town. I imagine if I was pairing it with BBQ or a turkey leg or something like that it would be more palatable.
I'm no potato salad expert, but of all the potato salads I've tried, I can't say I've hated any of them. I'll pretty much eat them all. Well, there was that one kind I found that I didn't like as much, which is the "red potato salad" where they basically quarter red potatoes and have you chew your way through it instead of making the potato salad smooth or creamy. I didn't find it disgusting or anything, but... not exactly my fave, either.
In my house it aint tater salad unless it has relish and boiled eggs in it. and you have to use Hellman's or Dukes. no miracle whip, that's for tuna salad. My issue with store bought potato salad is the preservative synthetic after taste, like diet soda.
My mom is/was not a very good cook, but she rocked Potato Salad, light mustard style with relish, eggs and Hellman's Mayo. I was spoiled by that and every time I try a store brand, it pales in comparison
