Correct me if I'm wrong, @BimaThug. But I'm pretty sure even if we dumped Fred into somebody else's cap space for nothing we wouldn't have space to sign anybody. Though if we did it before free agency we might would have had the non-tax payer MLE instead of the tax-payer MLE. In that case, we might could have signed Rui for the full MLE. But then we wouldn't have Marcus Smart and we'd be in the same situation as we were last year with no reliable point guards for the year. Assuming you're not willing to bank it all on Bruce Thornton or Reed or Amen suddenly and magically being able to handle the responsibilities.
I double checked. I'm pretty certain I am correct. It appears that our current salary number is over 200 million. We would need to be under the salary cap ($164,961 million) in order to generate cap room. So if we wanted to offer Rui, say, 20 million, we would need to be at $144,961 million in total salary. We would need to dump well over 60 million into somebody else's cap space to get to that number, which would basically mean dumping KD or Sengun + Jabari for nothing in return.
No. Already used $6M of it on Smart. They could technically offer Rui another portion of the NT-MLE (triggering a first apron hard cap), but probably not as much as other teams with the full NT-MLE could offer him.
We could, but the Lakers used up every penny of their cap room, so we'd have to send out Capela and take back another Laker (Hardy?) to make it work. We'd also trigger a first apron hard cap. Still possible. Just not very likely.
I’m talking about last year when he was a FA. Stone didn’t go after him. I don’t think he will go after him right now.
Anyone that can teach our players how to handle and dribble a basketball! I have no clue how on earth we can draft Amen, Reed,Jabari, Eason and at one point Jalen Green, and all of them have mediocre ball handling skills. Curry came in to this league with mediocre ball handling and became amazing at it. Amen and reed were drafted as PG's and they still dribble at a mediocre level. At some point the training staff needs to be looked at.
Well that sucks. It means the only thing that will save this off-season is a KD trade and draft assets for a Trey or a good Sg and filler coming back. It will never happen. If people don’t understand how much this FO has screwed up, I don’t know what to tell you.
I don"t agree with this. I think we take every card we have and trade until we have a team that fits around kd. Who are we building around after we trade KD? Amen can't shoot, can't dribble, mediocre at passing, Reed is still a prayer that he'll show up. He definitely should not be playing ISO ball. Just doesn"t fit his skill set. Jabari and eason? SENGUN the guy who has been Man handled the last two years in the playoffs??? We have been rebuilding for almost half a decade and this is the team we are hoping to take us to the promise land?
