Probably is not viable for him to be a cancer for four seasons. he can try, but I don’t see it ending well one way or the other and I believe that it would be policed in the locker room.

Can we still trade Tari after he signed this? What’s his contract?

i think he knew the rockets had all the leverage and no other team could offer more so it was either take it or have nothing guaranteed past a season.

similar situation in DET with Duren. Det might get to keep him at a much cheaper price than hes worth

Not sure I would guarantee a 5-year contract for a player that’s injury prone and an 25-year-old that hasn’t improved his game much. What that said, it’s decent value contract which makes it easy to move if he doesn’t pan out.

I have the same question and tried to find the answer. The wording I found was confusing, but I think the answer is not for a year after the contract is signed. Maybe @BimaThug will chime in definitively.

Once Tari Eason signs this contract, he cannot be traded until January 15, 2027. He would not have any veto rights, but since his deal reportedly includes a 10% trade kicker, the Rockets would have to cut Tari a pretty damn big check upon trading him.

$16 mil/year is a fair value for him. Was very worried it was gonna be like $20 mill or more which would have been bad.

I definitely like the value, I do wish we had an opt out. but I imagine if there was a team opt out in a couple years and he had been playing really well then it could get very Chandler Parsons-y

It's very good value on the contract side, on the "do I even want Tari any more after last season" front I'm still not fully convinced tbh. At least I guess this makes him a more recoupable asset overall than the 1 year qualifying offer would?

I’m hoping it’s front loaded so he’s easier to trade down the line.

What is the Dec 15th timeline for then? I thought new contracts were Dec 15th, or am I conflating 2 different things?

December 15 is for most free agent signings. But if a free agent re-signs with his own team using full Bird or Early Bird rights (>20% raise), that date is pushed back to January 15.

It’s gonna start at about $14.05M and increase by 8% of that amount every year.

It is a good value contract I think. It is around 10% of the salary cap. Hopefully this season Tari can see that starting 3pt form from last reason can last all the way through the season/
